Post subject:  06 Lift

We recently purchased a 2006 KJ, we love it!!!!! I am planning on lifting and installing larger tires on the KJ within the next month or so. I was told by an installer that when the 2006 KJ is lifted, the stability alarm “goes on”. He was not sure if the system would not work or if it was a nuisance light. I am assuming he was referring to the “Electronic Stability Program (ESP) Indicator”. Has anyone encountered this with lifting the 2006 KJ? The installer received his info from “Skyjacker” reps. Thanks for your input.

:D

He's talking about the Anti-roll Migration system. In partial off mode for ESP, the only feature on should be the "Limited Slip" Feature. Or so the manual states. I guess we'll have to wait until someone with a lifted 06+ posts lol.

You might ask 2006KJ who installed the Frankenlift. To my knowledge there has not been any problems. I’m going to Frankenlift my 2007. You might want to call All J’s who sells and installs lifts for the KJ more than anyone else. They would know for sure. Here is the thread showing you the picture of 2006KJ’s Jeep. This photo will get you really excited!

hey there.. when i had my 06 lifted the only problem i had was that the ESP kicked in ALL the time! whenever i took a sharp turn or coming off or onto an expressway ramp.. that thing did it's darn job, kicked in and slowed the kj down.
freaked me out at first and became annoying. I actually never tried turning off the ESP to see if it would happen but even if you turn off the ESP it's still never really turned off i think. i think it's still partially on. check the manual. :?

Ohhhh Man. I wish my 06 was half that nice. I might just have to get a set of 1" Coil spacers with my 1.5" OME lift and do some trimming!

I must agree with kjjames....The anti roll mitigation will activate ALL THE TIME. Anytime I make a sharp uturn or come off of an interstate or just anytime the lib makes sudden direction changes the light will flash (letting you know what its doing) and the power gets cut. Sometimes it doesn't bother me sometimes it happens in bad timming. My opinion is that the ESP is definatly a pain in the ...... but it does its job without fail. The cause for this is raising the center of gravity so much. Best part of the ESP, is you don't have to worry about ending up on your lid, worst part is you can't turn it off. Turning off the "ESP" switch on the steering column only disables the traction control and allows you spin the tires without activating the ESP, It doesnt change the way the ESP reacts to any situation. I must honestly say that the only time I deem this ESP to be unsafe is when I make a sharp U-turn and try to accelerate quikly....in front of someone and the ESP sences that I"m about to roll and cuts power not allowing me to accelerate for just a split second. I guess the best way to avoid that is to All in all Youl be happy with it but you will definately notice that you have an on board baby sitter ALL THE TIME.......Good luck and congrats on the kj!!!!!

did you guys have the dealer make the change for the new bigger tires you got? I'm thinking that might of been part of your problem becuase the ESP relies on the ABS sensors working correctly. I will be having mine reprogramed once i get my new tires on.

No, but I should. I howerver do not believe that this has anything to do with it as I kept the stock tires and weels on it for about 5000 miles or so and the same thing occured. I understand why it does it but I just cannot seem to explain it well. The only reason for this the change in yaw rate. The top of the jeep sways much more than with a lower center of gravity, Thus telling the computer that the vehicle is leaning to much for the given speed. But the only way to stop it is to change the way the computer thinks and only chrysler can do it, but never will.

This is why my signature has the '06 wrangler rather than a '06 KJ now. One too many times of almost getting taken out turning into traffic and NOT accelerating...

yea guys- that was one of the reasons i got de-lifted. ..other than the fact that the new wifey had me sell everything :( ... could not turn off the darn ESP...wouldn't let me accelerate coming off a turn as Moose is saying, and of course using the lifted KJ as my daily driver just wasn't working with those freindly gas prices..

Just wondering, out loud, if wheel spacers or different backspacing on aftermarket wheels might help with the ESP situation.

It seems, to me at least, that a wider stance might help negate some of the body roll from the, now higher, center of gravity.

Ive never accually had a problem with the ESP during normal driving. When I go to peel out, after leaving an alley way or gravel road, it will activate. But otherwise its pretty normal driving.

I must not be as much as a maniac as you folks.

I think it might be bad sensors. Mine was doing the power limiting on 1 in 10 accelerations and turn o the right, and 1 in 10 slow breakings resulted in ABS activation, but the tech couldn't find anything... :?
