| Post subject: | Before OR After? |
This may sound like a dumb question but here goes...I'm due for oil, spark plugs and axle fluids change. I'm going on vacation for two weeks and the Jeep will be sitting without being driven. Should I change before leaving and let it sit with new fluids and plugs or should I wait until I get back? |

You might want to disconnect the battery if you are not going to drive it for a few weeks. |

Thanks raceinfan. So you think it's better to leave the old oil in a vehicle that sits for two weeks instead of new oil? I'm thinking it might get sludgy or something because it's old oil. Then again I don't want new plugs sitting in it without being ran either. What is the longest time you can leave a vehicle safely without disconnecting the battery? Some have said three weeks, others one month? Sound I disconnect for only two weeks? Thanks for any opinions on my dumb question. haha |

I didn't drive my Liberty for a month before the battery ran down. I then put a trickle charger on it for the remaining time. |

old oil,new oil it's all going to settle in the bottom of the pan & sit it should be fine, same thing with the plugs nothing should happen as for the battery I usualy go on vacation for about 12 days & both my KJ's have never had a problem starting right up when I got back |

On the late 90's V6 Toyota platforms, they had issues w/ engine sludge and Toyota even sent out a notice to all owners to regularly change their oil but I have never heard of this w/ a Jeep. |

I say let it sit and chage it befor you run it again this will let all of the "junk" run to the lowest point and come out upon changeing |

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to keep the old in over vacation and change oil and plugs the day I get back. Jason, I'm not changing myself so I will have to drive it about 3 miles to get the oil changed. Oh well, will have to risk moving the old sludge around. I'm going to leave the battery hooked up for the alarm. It's only 2 weeks so I don't think it will discharge unless I have a short or power drain somewhere. Also, I'm removing the spare tire and antenna to prevent robbery. I've already had my antenna stolen once by some neighborhood kids. Thanks again for the help. |
