Post subject:  Trimming front bumper 2005?

I tried posting in the Fabrication section. No response.

If I cut the fender off where the red line is what do I do with the 2 lights? Has anyone moved them somewhere else? I think the side marker light would fit on the fender behind the headlight but what about the turn signal?

I heard someone talk about converting the fog lamps into turn signals. I don't know if they ever did it or not, but it would be pretty cool.

Actually I did think about converting the fog lamps. It wouldn't be hard to do, but I want to keep them. I was also thinking of trying to find a round light that isn't very deep, maybe LED's, and recess them into the bumper.

Why not cut under the light, that way your sorted as far as blinkers go. It's unlikely that your going to try & crawl up a ledge that requires that much clearence. Probably look nicer to boot. :)

Honestly, I would just cut out under the main bumper (the chin) first to start with...see how that works first.

Yes, just cut the "chin" as Darby suggested, one of our former Rockies members did that with his '05, and it looked real good.
If you are still not satisfied, then you could cut more, then get some round 2" lights and you could place one next to the fog in the grille, and another in the flare above your cut. Then you would keep the alternating blinking and have front and side blinkers. Then all you would need for install is a hole saw and a dremmel, real easy.

Good suggestions, thanks! I think I'll do the chin cut and see what it looks like. It will be awhile before I can do it because I just had eye surgery. No lifting or bending down. Then the other eye needs it also. darn cataracts!

I was thinking ... humm ... cut the chin THEN add a 1/4 plate under the bumper that could even be bent to come up to cover the bottom inch of the front of the bumper...like a bumper skid! Keep it real close in proximity to the palstic...nice and clean!

You like that idea huh? It would be easy to do. You could use the two hook attachment points and even extend it down to the engine skid if you wanted. Would be real easy to make a rear "bumper skid" that would just slip into the reciever hitch.

On the front skid you could take a piece of tubing and cut it down both sides...then weld them together length wise one on top of the other...they would basically look like the front bumper contour.
