So, my poor kj has all of 58k on it and I got some bad clutch shudder when the clutch gets warm. It seems to be catching at the top as well. So, I got two questions:
1) Can you inspect the clutch plate without unbolting the tranny?

2) Has anyone installed a heavier clutch to be able to tow 5k like the auto's? When I talked with a clutch shop, they said to go with a Kevlar clutch.

Any advise?

Stephen

I know of several one ton trucks running kevlar set ups and they all love them. Most I've talked to like Southbend clutch. I don't know if they have one available for the Jeep, but it sounds like your mechanic knows what he's talking about.

Hey stephen....I've also heard that clutches made with Kevlar are very tuff, but can also be kinda hard on the flywheel due to the hard material. But when I think of a "Heavy Duty" clutch,I'm thinking in terms of the stronger pressure from the pressure plate, thus reducing slippage. :?: From a performance stand point,I like "Hayes",but my personal choice would be a "Luk" brand,as I have had good luck with them for about 25 years now.

I heard about the clutch company back in the mid-70's. Yeah I'm that old I was running a Buick GS, My buddies had a Road Runner. Baldwin Motion Vette, and a Trans-Am both the Road Runner and the Vette used a Zoom Clutch for these street legal muscle cars. My GS had an automatic so I didn't have a personal experince that way, but another kid I knew had a 69 Chevelle SS with a 396 RAT motor after blowing his 455 any way when he did the engines swap he did a half stupid job. We raced the night after his rebuild he had my GS beat till he blew the Clutch thru the hood and about 50 foot into the air. Anyway I have seen ZOOM clutches advertised on HorsePower TV I don't know how or if they will fit a Libby. But it does have a long history and track record if it does fit I know at least from my muscle car days it was hard to beat 8)
