Post subject:  Renegade Roof Rails?

Hey can anybody tell me the difference between the types of roof rails?

I have a 07 limited with the bling rails. Just bought Donnie's Black rails off his KJ. They are MUCH beefier and have a hole in the top in the front and back.

Attached is a pic.

Is this the mounting holes for the renegade style black cross bars? (part Number mopar 82209002)

I just installed these and i love the black look. Also they are VERY much heavier than the chrome "Bling" bars i had on there. Thats what i wanted

Also how are those cross bars for mounting lights and baskest and stuff?

When I installed my renegade roof rack I had to drill holes in the same spots.

So that is what these holes are for?

These bars are BEEFY and the holes wer not drilled. they look to be pressed out prior to finishing. I could not believe the difference between the chrome bling bars and these.

Those are the holes where the Renegade basket mounts.

So the tupperware WILL fit on the roof of my 07 limited now because of these holes?

Post subject:  Basket

As far as I know, the Renegade basket will fit on all roof rails except the larger diameter roof rails that came on the 05+ Renegades.

Since I'm really bored right now, i ran out and looked at mine. The Tupperware is actually attached to the rail with 4 clamps lined with rubber that clamp around the rails. I don't see anything going through that hole. I can't see the inside of the top clamp since it's mounted but from what I can see I would think that the only thing that that hole could be for is if there is a locating "pin" or stud on the inside of the top clamp half. This would only serve to locate the clamp at the proper location on the rails. As i said, the T-ware itself is clamped to the rails not bolted through any holes in the rails.

The screws that hold the crossbars down go through those holes I believe. The clamps hold the basket to the rails, and the could probably be easily modified to fit the larger rails.

Nope. At least not on the T-ware. On the T-ware the crossbars mount to the inboard section of the clamps themselves with a threaded bolt attached to a large knob.

When I installed my "basket" I had to drill holes in those exact same spots. It looked like their purpose was just to secure it to the rails. I could have just used the rubber clamps and not screws, but I would have hated to loose the thing on 264.

There are 4 machine screws with VERY coarse threads that spin through the tops of the clamps and into those holes. They secure the clamps to the roof rails so they don't slide and cause your tupperware to go flying away! :D

Hmmm.. Good to know. I didn't notice those on mine because I couldn't see under the t-ware. I guess you could do without them as the clamps seem to be pretty sturdy.
