Yall know that this cat could be on to something? You factory boxers ever noticed that your filter is MO dirty on one side? This setup might spread the air to the whole filter. Maybe tjkj2002 will keep us posted on how his filter looks after a while. Here is his post: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=20785 |

Actually I was thinking about a much cheaper way to create what others are simulating as ram air.Just cut a 12" hole in your hood and mount a toilet seat(a used one that your done with). By raising or lowering the lid you can make the airflow adjustable. Ron |

OK OK Ron........but now I do have a nice used one with yellow and blue flowers that ....oh never mind |

You factory boxers ever noticed that your filter is MO dirty on one side? Lets do this in steps: Why is the above question true? Or have you never noticed? Would it be the side closest to the ram air entrance to the box? What do your pressure meters show for X and Y locations of the box? Or did you just look at your filter and say..."Dis sho am dirty" Oh, I see the rolling laughter, this must mean U's wanna dem dummies that put the COLD air systems on Simulated Ram air ? We'll call it pressurized air then, Dat make ya feel better. Ain't no use in cuttin a hole in your hood unless you have a carb. Heck fella's, Turbos are out now for fuel injected systems. Betcha got one of them shinny jobbers too, Ron? I believe his Idea could have some merit. |

I have noticed the filter being dirty on one end and not the other. That just has to do with the airflow and how its entering the box. Anytime I take my filter out to check it, I usually turn it around.. |

Yeah, that's where the dirt lands, not necessarily where the air flows through the filter. |

Next step: Pilot, You say-N that the dirt defies gravity and lands at the top of the box ? YES, Thats where the air flows the MOST thru the filter. Don't you want it to flow thru the whole filter? |

If you really wanted to get the dirt evenly distributed through the filter you could come up with some internal baffling inside the airbox to equalize the airflow. I don't think something like that would be entirly necessary because all of the air entering still passes through the filter regardless but I might be able to be convinced otherwise. |

when one part of the filter gets dirty and starts to clog the air will automatically flow through the cleaner part of the filter. Dont worry about it. |

No, I'm saying that the heavier solid dirt behaves quite differently than the lighter gaseous air. The dirt & air comes through the snorkle at a high velocity, the dirt strikes the filter & sticks. the air strikes the filter & either goes through, or is deflected off of the filter, to later go through in a different location. I'd theorize that most of the air goes through in places other than where the dirt is... the filter is clogged by the dirt in that location, so it goes through the clean part of the filter. Edit: Drat... Jeger beat me to it! |

Yeah, what those two above me said. The air will take the path of least resisitance and the filter will continue to do its job. The factory box and filter size are fine for a 3.7L and larger overall than what is in my XJ w/ a 4.0L. Getting more cool air to it might help or at least shouldn't hurt anything other than allowing dirt to get to the filter easier too. |

I'm giving yall a hard time, The bottom line is with more air coming into the top thru a bigger pipe, it will push air back out the bottom pipe while at speed. Doing nothing You would do just as well drilling bigger holes in the bottom as a drain to wash the bugs out. |

So, because of the angled shape of the box and the fact that the air is coming in at the front bottom...The rear would be dirtier than the front half if that theory were true? Does not, the front half get dirtier? If there is enough air pressure already to drive crap up to the top of the box into the filter then why in the heck would we need to force more air in there when the flow is strong enough anyway?? I'm gonna put ice in my filter box to cool it off like JJ said |

Here you go,if you want cooler intake temps try this Vortech water/air cooler.Run a dry ice and unmixed anti freeze(the green kind) for ice cold intake temps. It's made for supercharged engines but I don't see why it won't work on a naturally asperated engine.http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=VOR%2D8N301%2D010&N=700+400107+4294809384+115&autoview=sku![]() |

Would the slower moving air of a naturally aspirated engine heat back up once it comes in contact with the metal / plastic intake ducting? A S/C'd engine has really high air temperatures because of the compression taking place on the air so I understand the need for the Air Cooler after a S/C. |
