full no empty yes unleaded is something like 6.5# per gallon so that is 32.5# + the can on top of the it has more leverage being pushed out from the gate |

It might be too heavy. I wouldn't want to be the first one to ripe the spare tire off. But I have climbed on the spare to get to my roof basket and I way 200lbs. But then again when you're driving around and weight is pulling down on the spare that might cause some carnage. Here's the Pic.

I'd be more concerned about someone running into it |

Then after it spilled all over thier hood, you could accidently flick your bic and say "whoops, did I do that?" (After pulling away of course.) |

I've stood on my spare, and I weigh 175 pounds. I don't think the tank would cause any problems, even when opening the swing gate. Who has a big mud-terrain on the spare, they could probably verify that. |

Just remember the factory spare mount is only designed for 50lbs,a OEM tire and rim is 45 lbs.My swing gate started sagging bad after having 85+lbs MT/R and steel rim on it for a year so I moved the spare to the roof until I get RL's spare tire carrier. |

I have that carrier on my commando. It doesn't mount on the tire but it has the same clamp down bracket, it has been years since I bought it, might have been a confer. Anyway, besides the weight, the bracket is very hard on the can. I am on my second, it eventually stresses the bottom seam to the point of leaking. If you do carry one I would only put it on when going offroad, to reduce wear and tear from every day driving. For the KJ I may just try a couple of plastic cans strapped on top in a basket. |

That's why you need one of these thingamajiggers...
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/683398/3 Yes - it kinda reduces your departure angle. I mostly developed it for getting from home to base camp - not necessarily for 'wheelin. 10 extra gallons of go-go juice, though! Todd |

I have a hitch hauler as sold at Wal-Mart. The hitch hauler dramatically cuts down on approach, but I use it just to get me to base camp then I take it off for play. It’s nice for hauling heavy gear or added fuel. I like the plastic 5 gallon BLITZ containers like you would get at Wal_Mart. |

That might work better with an aftermarket bumper like RL. THe hitch sits higher for better departure angles. |

I'm 280 lbs. And it supports me. Although, I'm not on top as I bounce down the trail. Also check with your state DMV. If your from NY, it might be illigal to transport gas in any container right behind your jeep. A small fender bender could be major trouble. |
