Post subject:  avatar image size
So, I had a really nice looking picture in my avatar that was over 50kb. then i went to change it and it will only let me put in a 3kb image. What gives?

seriously? is that how it works? i actually have no idea here. if so, what would i have used up the kbs on? i deleted my old avatar.

right.... so theres obvioiusly a really funny joke here that i am completely not getting at all. What does kbs stand for that is becoming some sort of play-on-words? i feel kinda dumb for being out of the loop on this one.. :roll:

BUT! in my defense, i just asked everyone in my office and no one has any idea what you guys are talking about! ha!

Don't feel dumb not everyone is computer savvy. Kb's=kilobytes. You don't have an alloted amount and you didn't spend it on lunch! :lol:

btw, I wasn't laughing at you the direction of the discussion was quite funny.


As for the original ?,
They may have changed up the requirements to limit the size of the avatar's try saving it as a gif and see if that helps. If not you could send it to me and I'd be more then happy to try and compress it more for you if you don't know how.

See, I certainly know that a kb is a kilobyte. I thought that everyone was using the acronym "kbs" to refer to something else that was funny that I wasnt catching. o well! I know you werent laughing at me and i'm not upset or anything, i just wanted to know what was funny! :D

I optimized the jpeg in Image Ready for web, but to get 3kb you have to get the quality so low that it really looks like crap. I guess a gif would work best and I'll give it a try. 3kb is just really low for a 150x100 px image, and gifs dont work very well for full color photos.

It really is pretty low but I just checked mine and it's at 78k. Have you tried again since to see if it would work? I host mine from photobucket and it pulls from there.

i havent tried again, but this is what the profile page says.

UPDATE seems to be working now. not sure what was wrong, i didnt do anything different...

Picture physical size and the pictures memory size are part of the limitations. A rich textured picture can be high in memory size and cause a small physical size....vice versa.
