Does anyone have the jeep crossrails or aftermarket crossrails? I was wondering to get the factory crossrails or aftermarket because i am getting a cargo carrier for the top from my uncle and i need the crossrails to make it work. If anyone can give me some info. I would appreciate it.

P.S.

I have the mopar aluminum rails that have an airfoil shape. They don't fit as well as OEM's should, & they are wide which takes away from the space that would be used by a soft cargo carrier. I have no experience with aftermarkets, but I'd be willing to give them a try!

I made my own,
-bought two 1"x1" square tubes (luckely they fit in lenght, protruding about 2 1/2" on each side from the side rails in the
back)
-got four 1" square black plastic plugs( for furniture legs) as end caps
-and 4 U-bolts with 4 lock nuts
=all from a local hardware store for total $ 32

-drilled two holes on each side for the U-bolts(to go from underneath the side rails into the cross bars) and over-
sprayed black corrosion/heat resistant oven paint

Done!

Looks pretty good, and a good alternative to a $ 150-300 OME,Mopar,Yakima etc set.

I've got Yakimas from a pre-Jeep period and just bought the "Lowrider" adapters to go with them. Work great for me.

Hey,

I am looking at the racks by Off Road Unlimited.

http://www.offroadunlimited.com

they have a 4x4x4" bolt together rack that is on sale, free shipping, and suppoedly a free net. The thing i like and want to see more of is that you don't need any cross rails for their rack. their rack uses their mounts and attaches to the side rails already on ur libby.

Keeping it that much more low profile. then i am going to look at their light cage for the front. lots of low trees around here.

Again I have no experience with this product. looks stout and is not the cheapest. I have a Yakima rack on my 02 and don't like the build up approach to adding stuff to the roof of the KJ.

are you talking about these...http://www.offroadunlimited.com/ProductCart/PC/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=1323&idproduct=4695 for the bolt up spot on the roof? b/c it looks to me like they are too long for our holes in the top. i too am debating of which roof rack, and love the defender, and since i was in a wreck, the money that i will be getting is more than enough to buy 1 of these.

If you look at the downloadable instructions sheet for the defender roof rack you will see the pic i have here:

Image

you can see that the factory rails are the support ONLY for the rack. The rack is a little wider and thus sits on the factory rails
