So the other day I was sitting at a traffic light waiting to turn and there was a guy in a Wrangler on the opposite side from me. After he waved, he motioned to pick up the CB. I grabbed mine but couldn't tell what channel he wanted to talk to me on. So I had a thought. What if we all agreed to a certain channel, then every time we saw each other on the road, those guys with CB's could not only wave to each other, but could also exchange a friendly greeting over the airwaves. What do you guys think? |

Back in the day it was Ch. 19 for truckers and CH. 4 for 4WDS but that was Ohio so may of been different for 4Wheelers else where. Plus that was back in the 70s. It also depended who all was going along KTO7216 Citizens Band License number Tom |

Yeah, 19 and 4 here. I usually leave mine on 19, its fun to listen to some of the trucks from far beyond. EDIT: My bro also says 16 if 4 is busy (4x4 = 16; get it?) and sometimes 22 (2+2 = 4WD). But rarely 22. |

Well I knew about channel 19 for the truckers(my sister met her husband in truck driving school), but I had never heard about the channel 4 thing. So I guess next time I'm out, I'll make sure I'm on channel 4. What's your 20, good buddy? |

Channel 16 is supposed to be for sideband along with 35 through 40. Sideband and AM don't mix at all. Also, you want to keep it down to 1 channel. If you say 3 or 4 channels then you will be going from 1 to the other trying to find Joe Blow while he is doing the same trying to find you. I vote for Ch.#4. Terry |

I'm always on either CH 4 or listening into 19. I only flip up to 19 when I get stuck in traffic though. That's one sure way to find out what's going on and whether or not you should wait the traffic out. Just flip it up to 19 and listen for the chatter. I wanna get a new radio though. I want one of those handheld jobbies 'cause I'd like to use it in the Jeep and out on the boat. Been shopping, but I haven't picked one yet. Too many options... |
