Post subject:  hitch basket carrier
I am looking for a carrier that has an arm that is bent at a 45 degree angle or more and rises about 8" front the hitch. I found it once and book marked it and now I can't find it anywhere.

Does anyone recognize that carrier I am talking about?

It has its pros and cons. I have both, roof and rear receiver basket. With the rear you have less wind resistance but all the crap from the wheels blows back on the stuff. Plus getting into the rear cargo area is a lot harder. When I moved my wife to Boston last year used them both, through a rainstorm stuff on top was dry stuff on the rear basket was damp, same type of thos ecargo carriers. Just some thing to think about. I can take my roof rack off in 5 minutes or less and the rear one in about 1 or 2 so not that much difference

I would be using it in the front for when I go fishing. I like the idea of being able to take it off and not having to drive around with it all the time. I know it isn't hard to take off the roof basket but I have had it on for a couple of months now and have not taken it off. Also it is windy where I live and I can feel the basket up there when I drive, I want to try and be more arrow dynamic. I do like having it though so I am torn.

I actually just bought that exact rack, the rubicon deluxe model. I love it.
The z-bar really helps the departure angle. Its made solid also, ive put all 185 all over the rack to try and find some bending and there was nothing. I'm very pleased with it. I can post some pics if you would like.

Concerning the wind and a roof basket, I have the mopar unit, and when I put it on I did not put the little fairing on it for a couple of days so I could affix the jeep sticker. I did notice the wind for those two days, but since putting on the fairing, I do not notice it at all...(maybe it's just psychological?).That hitch rack is cool, perfect for fishing it looks like...

Do some shopping around. That one posted above lists for around $150+. I've seen similar ones for under $100.

I have the mopar basket, I do like it but when driving on the highway I can really feel it up there. Plus I don't really use it that much.

Also will I be able to fit in a normal size garage with the basket on? My new house isn't ready yet but it will have a garage, I have been wondering about it.

The basket I have on is four inches or so high and I can still get in a normal garage, of course I have it mounted down low, bottom of basket is about same heighth as the side rails so that helps. Measure to see how high you are now with it on. My door is like 6 foot 6 inches or so I think

That might stick out a little far if I put it on the front hitch...hmmmm

You can always replace the long angled bar with a shorter straight length for the front.

Nice, I didn't notice the pin there! That will work.

so who wants a mopar roof basket? :wink:
