Post subject:  Best Fuel Injector cleaner?

I replaced a bad pcv valve last week, but now, I'm wondering what the best fuel injector cleaner would be. Lucas? STP? Gumout? Anything else?

Or...........has anyone gotten an injection cleaning service and, if so, is it better than just dumping a bottle down the tank?

theres a three step fuel cleaner that i swear by and you can get it at advance auto parts. its made by berry man and is called professional 3 step engine cleaner. it has one for your fuel tank one cleans out you throttlebody and the other has a hose that goes into your vaccum line off of your power brake booster. great kit and only 25 bucks

Use Seafoam, it does the fuel system good! You can poor it the tank and/or suck it through a vaccum line to the TB.Great stuff!

I just did STP Platinum or whatever the "complete" stuff was, in silver bottle. I didn't feel much of a difference. Hopefully it did its job

I use Amsoil performance improver, it's sold in a concentrated form. For initial clean-up I would use a more concentrated mixture. And for maintenance I naturally use a more diluted mixture. Also BG44K is good stuff for serious sticky EGR valves and such. I've heard fuel experts say that our fuel isn't very quality controlled, therefore the need to add injector and fuel system cleaners is highly recommended. I like to use Chevron gas when I can buy it. Chevron has the Techron additive that is suppose to be very good stuff. You can order Amsoil products from JJsKJ.

Post subject:  Injector Service

I remove my injectors, flow test them on our injector tester/cleaner,stick all of them down into the "Sonic Wave" cleaner for 15 minutes, then remove them for another flow test to see if I made any improvements.Of course it's nice to work where you have all of the nice equipment to take care of your vehicle. Upper engine cleaner, such as "Seafoam" or GM's "Upper engine Cleaner" are also two very good ways to clean the entire upper intake chambers, but when it comes to cleaning injectors, nothin' beats having them removed for better servicing. And when you remove them it's always best to replace the tiny "Filter Baskets and O-Rings "within and on the injectors.Hope this helps. :)

OK so Ron are you going to set up a program where we send you our injectors to clean/check and return OR have a program where we buy a set from you already to install and we send you ours back in to you for a deposit so that you can then clean them and send on to someone else?
Oh since its my idea I do get a free set to test right?
but what does it cost to do that for an average joe blow off the street??

I go with gumout. It worked wonders on my XJ. I put a bottle through with every oil change and it kept the hard starting problem away.

"tiny "Filter Baskets and O-Rings"

Hard o-rings will make it run rough as heck. Most folks forget about those.

Toss a couple Gremlins in there and they chisel away at the buildup. Gives them something to eat and keeps my engine working well. Win-Win situation. Just be sure to remove them before they find a way to get into other compartments.

All my vehicles are running great on cheapo Costco gas and Amsoil P.I. Performance Improver Concentrate. I add a bottle about every 4-5k miles and usually at the start of any long distance driving and I have noticed smoother starts and overall better mileage.

BG44K at every oil change. Put it in at a full tank, run down to a half tank, and then fill back up and run to empty. This allows it to slowly eat away the nasty deposits. I really like it, but I know a lot of people here really like the sea foam.

Just curios, Ron. How difficult is it to remove the injectors?

I use Seafoam, much cheaper than BG44K. Didn't get the smoke show that I wanted but I did notice it had a better throttle response afterwards.

Tom....Tom....Tom....I just knew you where going to be the one to think up such a plan as this.  We do carry in injectors alot.I'm thinking we get 10.00 or 15.00 a piece to service injectors, and that includes new filter baskets and O-Rings top and bottom. The filter baskets are a very important part of the service in that they are very small and the micron value of them also has them subject to clogging easier than one might think. So in most cases it's not the injector that clogs,it's the filter baskets, but the only way to change them is to remove the injector.Labor to remove the injectors naturaly just depends on the type of engine and it's options(or clutter). And to try and answer QuestMan's question on how hard on the libby.....without going into a step by step procedure, they are pretty much straight forward, remove all hoses and brackets in the way, take the coils off the top of the plugs and lay them aside, releave the pressure on the fuel system, unbolt the fuel rail, and gently pry on each injector until the are out of there holes. In my opinion they are about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10,and spark plugs being a 2.so there really not that hard....just time consuming.

Time Consuming? As in manual labor? Next thing, you'll be telling me I can install my own lift! (Oh, wait. I ALREADY did that........) :-)r

So, what you're telling me is, it's not any worse than replacing all 4 rotors and brakes. Since I HAVE been known to take the lazy way out, once or twice, I'll try the Sea Foam 1st. If that doesn't work, then I'll get out the socket wrenches, since it sounds like it'd be cheaper if I take them out.

Thanks! :D

Maybe thats why I like you Tom,....I appreciate a guy who gets his work done. ...But on a serious note,I did confirm with my service manager on a price to service injectors, and it is 15.00 a piece and it does include filter,O-Rings,and a print-out of the complete test and results. So if anyone can't find a local shop to do it,and I would be your last source, you can PM me and possibly make shipping arrangements to get em' done. And QuestMan if you can do a lift and 4 wheels of brakes.....I'm sure you can handle removing the injectors.
