I got the letter in the mail today!

It involves my rack.

It says I can take it back to REI (where I got it) for 100% satisfaction. Does that mean I can get my money back for it or that REI will do the repair kit install?

Apparently it is a customer satisfaction issue and they will give you your $ back at REI but that is in the letter that we REI buyers got not the one on the Thule web site. It seems to me that you would either need to be really in attentive or a real klutz to turn the thing into a finger guillotine.

If you look at the fix on the Thule site the fix is a peal and stick rubber bumper and a safety sticker that will probably take you 2 minutes to do. That will likely be my solution as I really like the rack. I called the 800 number and got voice prompted to Neverland though.

Post subject:  Kudos To Thule

Late yesterday afternoon when I got home and opened mhy Thule recall the were closed for the day, the East Coast/West Coast thing. I called again this morning and a somewhat flustered yet pleasant young lady promptly tookmy information and will be sending me my retro kit in about 10 days. She was flustered because I was the only customer she had talked to that knew the model number of my rack!!!!!

Tonight when I got home I had a call from some other Thule customer satisfaction person, unaware of my call, personally contacting me and urging me to return the call to get the recall kit ordered as a follow up to my letter from them.

Certainly it pays Thule to be proactive since the kit is probably worth less than $5 and that is cheaper than returning all the $20 racks but gosh that fuel filer head on the CRD is only $150 and the CRD was $25K.

Thule get my nod of approval.

   Arthritis in the right pinkie. Sometimes I hit the key but not as hard as I thought. Since I am not a touch typist I never see my mistakes. Ignorance and old age are sometimes bliss. "Sorry miss, I didn't realize I touched your *ss. Can't see too good."
