Post subject:  Window VentVisors

I have a 2002 Silver Libby and would like to put on a set of four Ventvisors on the windows. I have had them on my last three trucks and they are great, especially to allow a fella to put the window down a bit in rainy or snowy weather here in Canada. My trucks were always black in color, so the Ventvisors blended in. Now that I have a silver Jeep, I wonder if the Ventvisors would stick out like a sore thumb, or would they give the Jeep a new look? The Jeep looks great without them, but is there any owners out there that have light colored Libby's that could lend me your thoughts?? I don't want to put them on and have it look terrible. Thanks.

I have a silver KJ with the IN-CHANNEL vent visors & it looks fine as far as I'm consirned & I've seen other's around here with the outer ones & they look fine also it's all in choice I guess you also could get the clear ones & have them painted to match your KJ that would be cool 8)

I like mine, got them off E-Bay 3 yrs ago for like $60

I have the in-channel visors (front only). I think they look decent on my silver limited. Can post a picture later. It definitely won't look terrible.

But I wouldn't paint them, for visibility reasons. My A-pillar already does a good enough job of hiding pedestrians and other drivers' right turn signals that I wouldn't want to make it any bigger, which is what painting the visor would do.

Jeepskate, can you post a pic of your Silver Libby with the front ventvisors??

Also, what is the difference between the "in channel" and the regular ventvisors? I guess the Ventshade brand ones I had on my previous rigs were considered "regular". What do the in channel ones do?

Thanks for all your help fellas.

Here's what the ventvisors that don't go in channel look like. These were the only one's available in '01. I took some hail damage to the two rears a little while ago. Put a hole through each of them. I'm trying to decide if I should put a set of them back on, a set of in channels, or leave them off when we repaint the KJ.

the IN-CHANNEL ones fit in side the window channel so you don't have this black rim going around your window & they don't stick out as far as the regular ones do kinda low profile & aero dynamic but work the same

I wanted the in-channel's, but they didn't make them. I was waiting for them to come out when a friend handed a brand new set to me since he saw that I didn't have any. They do cause a little noise. Do the in-channel's? I think that will make my decision.

I have the in-channel ones. They look/work the same except the don't have that little "lip" that goes around the top of them so they are a little more low profile as mentioned above. Also, there is no "glue" from the tape stuck to your paint, they seem to help the window close just a bit more snuggly at the top, and I believe they are less likely to get torn off in a drive through car wash (which I've taken mine through once a week or so for over 3 years). Some people say the stick on ones can get torn off in a car wash though I haven't actually heard of it happening with anyone on this board.

NOW, that being said. The in-channel ones only cover the rear window the length of the actual opening of the rear window so they stop right at the black upright channel which seperates the window itself from the small, non moving piece of glass.
The stick on outside ones cover the full length of the window AND small glass panel so they are about 3 inches longer.

Depends on which features/look you like. I happen to like the lower profile look myself.

:!: One hint: :!: If you get the Vent-Visor in channel ones, when you do the rear window, there is a little tab on the rear most section where it butts against the upright channel. This tab is offset and has 3M tape on it. It goes OUTSIDE the channel and sticks to the black upright. I've seen people try to stuff this INTO the channel and end up deforming the channel. When mounted, you don't even see this tab. It provides support to the rear of the visor.

Nicest thing about them is that in the summer at work I can leave the windows down almost an inch for ventilation and no one can see that they are open and all the parking lot grit doesn't seem to blow in. Now if it rains while I'm at work the inside stays dry. :D

If you squint real hard and get real close to your monitor you can just make out the little tab on the rear one I am talking about in the below image.

Thanks guys. Will eventually order the in-channel ones. Both WADE as well as AVS (AutoVentshade/Lund) make in-channels now, FYI.

I know I am old school but still like the regular ones for a number of reasons but mostly I hate to see the little window on the rear doors not covered. To me it looks like they were suppose to be on another vehicle and are too small. Look at the difference between KY Libertys and Cacher123s
Just my 2 cents, I am done now

My right-rear in-channel broke when I rubbed it against a tree branch a couple weeks ago. I thought about replacing the back ones with the regulars but, I think now, I'm just gonna leave the backs off completely. They have tint, anyway. And I never did like the incomplete look of them, either. Once I break a front one, they'll come off, too.

Funny thing is, after you said that and looking at my pics, they did sorta look odd. So I ran outside and looked at em and they actually look better in person than the pics. Go figure! :?

Here are some pics of my 2002 with the front-only in-channel visors. I don't notice any additional wind noise with them in. And like someone else mentioned, it's nice being able to leave the windows cracked without anyone noticing. After seeing the way the in-channel visors fit on the rear windows, I'm kinda glad I just did the front. To me it looks odd having them come only part way across the top. Just my 2 cents.
