Suggestions for which fog lights I should get. I snowboard and I tend to end up on dark, snow covered, winding mountain roads and I'd like something to help with visibilty in snowy conditions. |

The best lights for snowy conditions may actually be driving lights. I've found that a widely dispersed pattern of light (fog lights) reflects back a lot more light from the falling snow than a driving light does, because the driving beam is narrower. A fog light actually lights up more of the falling snow to the sides of the vehicle. This reflected light is distracting and makes it more difficult to see where you're going. Light position is important. Mount the lights low for best effect in falling snow. There has been a lot of debate about yellow vs white light in foggy/snowy conditions. http://www.autoanything.com/lights/51A22.aspx Personally, I have found that yellow or amber light is better for falling snow, and I run PIAA amber ion driving lights for this purpose. |

I thought the stock lights worked pretty good in most snow storms... Maybe they could use a touch more yellow tint to them but not too bad. However, if I did have to add an additional set of lights I would do some PIAA lights with the yellow throw in a fog light pattern. Driving lights have to be turned on and off too much IMO to get any practical use on the street. |

I have to agree! I miss living in the mountains. I used to randomly drive around in the snow, sometimes I'd even help a friend out who ran a pizza joint and help take deliveries in the snow. Best of two worlds, driving in the snow and making money on the side for it. However, since I've gotten the KJ I notice the stock lights leave much to be desired when I drive in crappy weather conditions. So far it has only been rain, but I'd like to be prepared for my weekend trips into snow country. |

Crimsonfox, Dude - you live in the desert now. It doesn't snow here... Unless of course it's the annual AZLOST Fun in the Sun Run! Then it's almost a guarantee. As for the lights - it seems the most popular driving lights are the Hella 500's. Not sure if they come in a fog spread, though. Todd |

Yes, I know it is a desert here, but I still get up to Flag when the weather turns. I'm not sure there is anything more fun than driving some of those snow covered forest roads early in the season, before they lock them up for the winter. Plus, I'm moving out of AZ next summer. I'm going to CO. |

Well I'm sure the LOST Rockies kids will welcome you with open arms next year. Until then you'll have to put up with AZLOST. I'm itching to get out in the next couple of weeks - so I'll post and let you know where/when. The last time I drove in snow was in Flag on the way back from Moab in April. It was coming down so hard we elected to stay there in Flag for the night. By the next morning it was all gone... |

Check out the PIA replacement bulbs for your stock lights . They are privcy around $80 to $90. But I have tried other replacement bulb Sylvania blue and other and I still go back to the PIA for quality and performance. LEAD |

yup, I love driving in snow too.. Ive found the driving lights make everything worse. Snow built up on them and didnt melt so it lit all the falling snow up. The snow may of built up before I turned them on and then it couldnt melt the snow.. idk.. That happened when I was with the Mid-west group.. |

That happened when I was with the Mid-west group.. the ice scraper with the brush would have solved that issue! Or do you mean while you were driving? |
