Didn't measure it but one of my Jeeps I did it on and the other I didn't so I could get a measurement and let you know. It must have been a good inch difference though. I had to do it to clear the hitch on the RL bumper.

in order for the spare tire to clear the built in receiver you will need to flip the spare tire bracket over. IT will raise the tire up abut an inch or so and allow you to then use the receiver. If you won't ever tow or use a rear receiver recovery point then you don't need to worry about it.

I was thinking of doing it to clear my Thule Bike rack when it is folded down so I can swing the door open.

so am i to understand that if i already have a rear hitch its useless with RL's bumper? and by doing that does that block the rear glass from being able to pop open?

When you flip the mount upside down - the top of the tire angles backwards so you have more clearance to the rear glass.

FYI - a standard rear hitch isn't useless but it's redundant - because the RL bumper has one built in - and the standard will kill the rear ground clearance, while RL's gives you extra clearance.

I had my spare hit by a car so it is slightly bent downward (perhaps a 1/4") and I can still use the hitch on the RL bumper. I have the 245/75/16 MTR also.

The tire scrapes the extension I have on the hitch but remember, it is bent downward from the car hitting it.

Everyone should be fine using the hitch receiver on the RL bumper w/o turning the spare mount upside down.

It looks to be about a 2" difference from normal to flipped.
Tire carrier flipped:

Unflipped:

The fit w/ the hitch clevis was too tight and the carrier had to be flipped, i also couldn't use my drop hitch in it either. I gained a little extra clearance and better mounting for my antenna mount and I kinda like the tilted tire.

It isn't specifically rated for one but my HO is that it would be similar to a factory style hitch. It is built beefy and tied into the same mounts that the hitch uses. FYI, The factory style hitch Can be run under the RL bumper in its normal location (or at least that is what was determined previously)

Thanks John. That helps lots. I may flip mine to see if the Thule will work that way.

What tire size are you running?

It is not rated, but the OEM hitch will mount up still with zero mods to have a rated class III hitch.
