Anyone have any thoughts on adding a hood scoop to the KJ? Im looking for ideas like water handling, placement, design (height/width). Not sure if I want to incorporate into the airbox yet but want to start thinking about this project. I would like it to face forward depending on what can be done about directing the water away from the engine... Thanks in advance.

Well personally I don't think they look good on the liberty (or 99% of the trucks out there). Once you have it you're stuck with it unless you buy a new hood (if you plan on cutting a hole in the hood like you sound like you do). ...And you have a greater chance of water being sucked in. If you go swimming in your jeep you also have much less protection.

I think the wide and low (2" tall or less) ones look good. I dont swim with the jeep..... yet..... and if I did I could make a cover for it i suppose. The engine shouldnt have any issues getting a little wet. Everything seems pretty well protected.

well, there you go, time to completely abandon the idea.

I believe jeepin al used a 2002 mustang hood scoop on his kj (i know its in one of his posts, probably could find out exactly which year with a search). Don't know if he is around here anymore, but pm'ing him couldn't hurt. here are a bunch of pics from his site:

Look at the KJ at www.jeepinbyal.com. The hood scoop and fuel door are reported to come off a Mustang.

I like KY Libertys hood but I also like the Run Cool Hood Louvers, while not a hood scoop they do look "cool" and yes they "cool" your engine as well They are in the near future!

Funny

A long time ago I actually used to have a black 1990 240SX coupe with dark tinted windows. It also had remote start, door locks, 21 band spectrum analyzer eq in the dash, etc.... and had a built motor, intake, exhaust, chip, etc.... All my friends nick-named it KITT. :D

Maybe instead of a tradional scoop a Old School shaker hood would mount higher up and be further away from the water. I've always loved the shaker style, Trans-Am , Dodge and Chrysler muscle (pony) cars. How it looks on a KJ is up to personal taste . Photo shop could be a big help before you sart hacking away at your Jeep.. Or just another fabrication nightmare.

A buddy of mine had a shaker hood on his 01 Durango. It was bad stupid. But he did take it through an automatic carwash once and sucked a bunch of water into his intake. Luckily he only had to replace a sensor or two.

Agreed, that hood is very nice but costs $800 to buy and paint and all that good stuff. I dont think I want to get in that deep. Trying to save for a house right now so the GF would kill me....
