| Post subject: | Question after offroading |
Hey there people, today we got some rain, so i knew i could find some muddy areas to play in. While i was searching i found a HUGE mud puddle by the train tracks so i went through that a few times, very fun, guy in the train goin by was waving his finger at me like say "bad!!" but laughing at me lol. I found a little atv trail that i went into, now i had to get over some big bumps and dips to get into it and hit the the transfer case skid plate once. First time ive hit the skid plate, man what a sound that is! lol. I kept going and had fun and then left, i pulled over to the side of the road to see where it hit, because at the time i didnt know. So all looked well but i seen a zip tie on the drivers side on the skid plate. Is that supposed to be there? The car goes in tuesday to fix my grill because one of the clips is broken so should i ask them why there is a zip tie on my skid plate? BTW i was going to get some pic with the cell phone but after i looked at them i realise it was almost full so it sized down all my pics too super small! Grrr, had some good flexing goin on in that trail. Anyways if anyone has any idea about the zip tie or if thats supposed to be there for something please let me know. |

The installation kits (bolts, nutzerts, etc.) are zip tied to the skids when they ship with big black zip ties. I would guess that someone forgot to clip them off after installation. |

You should really hook up with a local club to make sure you are wheeling legal trails. Illegal wheeling is bad for us all, that's why we are losing so many good trails. |

Two Points. PLEASE check and make sure that the zip ties are, like was suggested and just the remaining ties for the shipping and not actually holding your skid in place. I would be VERY pissed to be out and find out i got screwed by the stealership when they ZIP TIED my skid plates on. Not mention VERY dangerous. With regard to Leagl Trails. I would like to remind you, or tell you in case you did not know, that the train guy was NOT laughing at you for 4 wheeling on the trail. He was laughing at the fact that you were tresspassing on rail road property and that they RailRoad Cops (yes i said railroad cops. THEY DO EXIST! and you don't want to meet them the hard way) were on their way to get you but you got lucky and were gone before they arrived. RailRoad cops are FEDERAL cops and they HAVE HUGE Jurisdiction. The property along the tracks is owned by the railroads and it is sacred. They will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. Trust me I know what i am talking about. You are lucky you still have a KJ. Could have been confiscated. and you locked up. With trains, THEY DON'T MESS AROUND!!! and quite frankly neither should you. You will loose those contests. with the train and the train cops. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! not just for all off roaders but for you own sake. |

lol sorry but you guys have this all wrong. The mud puddle was not a trail, the mud puddle was just some dirt at the side of the road and some huge puddles when it rains. It is used as a secondary parking lot for a walking trail on the other side of the street. It is by no means any kind of illegal trail i went on. The other trail may have been...it was an atv and dirt bike trail and i went on it for a short ride, but it was no where near train tracks. And yes i know all about rail road cops, my dad has been working for the Canadian Pacific railway for 27 years and i start there this november. I will get a picture for you guys today to show you this mud puddle and show you its not on a trail or in the forest. |

Laws and rules change from state to state, province to province. As a rural property owner I can tell you that what may seem an innocent piece of open ground will not be and while it may seem un-owned nothing is. You don't know how p*ssed it makes you to find out that someone has done a few acres of donuts in a freshly seeded field and how joyous one becomes when you find a 4 wheeler mired off road waiting for a tow while you stand there dialing the Sheriff with a big smile on your face knowing that one did not get away. It is always best to ask before you hunt, hike, bike, off-road. Some years ago upon entering a Provincial Park in British Columbia I noted a very large sign that first identified it as Provincial property and second warned that any vehicles seen off marked roads would be CONFISCATED! |

i will have to give you guys a pic of this to show you what i mean. It is not private property, this is all public lots, there not any houses within 2 miles of this area, is all public parks and parking lots. And this dirt area is no more then 10 feet wide and 20 feet long, used for us to park our car if you want to walk on the trail. But seeing as it was pooring with rain out, the little parking lot was empty and its unpaved so there were some mud puddles there. I have been in that spot when cops go by atleast 50 times. I can assure you it is perfectly fine. |

It may be fine, but lesson learned, don't take it for granted. I guarentee you somebody will not want any fresh ruts on their land if you didn't ask first. You are PROBRABLY safeno that property. Just don't assume you are all the times. Riuns it all for us all. |

They all have spots for both lifted and non. But all are well serviced logging roads that have trails branching off. If it gets to gnarly, just turn around (or pick another line). You should go to your bookstore and pick up "backroads mapbook, southwestern BC" by Mussio Ventures. It is sorta the wheelin' map bible for BC. All the trails are in there. |

I'm a railroader if we get plate numbers we let the Railroad police know they will meet you at your house. This is real bad subject with us, I think just about every Railroader has hit someone its no fun. Today some trespassers were crossing the river close to where I live they were on the Railroad Bridge with horses they jumped but the train killed the horses, that sucks. Sorry about the rant I just hate to see people or animals get hurt needlessly. |

I totally agree, and in fact a KJ lost versus a train two days ago. http://www.news-bulletin.com/news/train-08-25-07.html The New Mexico Rail Runner (commuter train between Albuquerque and some smaller cities) hit a KJ and killed it's two passengers after they were returning from a funeral. |
