I have a 2004, 4 cylinder 4X4 liberty, that i absolutely love and don't want to part with. Does anybody have any ideas how to get more HP/Torque out of it w/o breaking the bank?? (other than a high flow air filter, I can't find one to fit the 2.4L) It works fine for towing short distances, but occasionally, we have the need to tow longer distances. It is a manual, but downshifting 1 to 2 gears can get old fast. Stock 150HP/150TQ Any help or ideas would be welcome. Thanks! |

you bought the wrong motor for your libby if your towing. I would invest in a 3.7 litre liberty |

Sell and get a 3.7. You could sacrifice yours as a mule to drop the 4.7 in it. |

Can you take a picture of the motor? I have never actually seen what it looks like. |

Hey isn't 4:10 gears only available from gas 4-banger? You might have some highly sought-after parts in the KJ of yours |

Keep it if it works for ya'...it is kinda rare! Amsoil does make a better air filter that might help a bit if the air box is the same as a 3.7L...part# EaA201 You might want to check a Wrangler forum...many of those came with 4 bangers...maybe the same one. They would probably have some ideas for you. |

didn't Chrylser Turbo/Supercharge that engine in some of the Neon's and PT Cruiser's? it might take some work - but if there are factory pieces out there - they should be able to fit. might not hit the "w/o breaking the bank??" factor - but it would be fun. |

I was beginning to wonder if those actually existed! I knew Jeep made them but I have never seen one! I would probably cry if I had one. The 3.7 is super slow, I can't imagine what the 2.4 feels like! I hope you at least get better fuel economy...course the motor probably has to work hard! It doesn't seem that there are many performance enhancements for any Liberty. It's really sad. Maybe if Dodge releases some stuff with the 3.7 then the market for aftermarket will grow and we can get some nice new parts. |

Thanks for the info. I checked for a filter for the Wrangler 2.4 and they make one. Same size as stock on the libby. Ill have to wait and see if any noticeable difference though. Sorry i am unable to post photos of the 4 banger, but i can tell you that there is lots of room left under the hood!! Thanks again |

Honestly, it's probably not going to make a difference what ever you do to the 4 cylinder... It'll always feel underpowered. I'd honestly blame Jeep for even considering putting that engine into the Liberty. I would move to a 2008 Liberty with the normal engine... |

Ya, your power-to-weight ratio is gonna suck. Heavy Liberty / Less Powerful Engine = Poorer Performance Just sayin. It is what it is. On the bright side, nobody has seen one on here and we are Liberty phanatics. So you got a gem on your hands |

I think I would buy a used 3.7 or CRD, swap your diffs for the 4.10 gears, and either sell off the 4 cylinder or use it for parts. jeepgirl0385 wrote: I was beginning to wonder if those actually existed! Maybe if Dodge releases some stuff with the 3.7 then the market for aftermarket will grow and we can get some nice new parts. Everything you need to build the 3.7 to handle a supercharger or turbo is available such as the pistons, rods, cams, and programming. How powerful do you want it? I'll let you know who to talk to. It's kind of funny, I think a kid in a Focus tried to race me yesterday. He was revving his engine and moving forward at the light. As soon as it turned green he stomped on it, so I decided to teach him a lesson. When he was about a half a car length forward, I just gave it about 90% throttle so the boost wouldn't kick in. Just keeeping the throttle there, he was 2 car lengths behind me when I let off the gas at 45 mph. |

i dont see a tubro or supercharger in your sig so what boost would this be? |

Can't type any more in the sig. Just running a 25k rpm 60 amp electric supercharger. Only kicks in at wot. Pulls from a 300 amp batcap to isolate it from the rest of the electrical system. Provides around 1 psi of boost which is about like a well engineered ram air at 160 mph. Provides about a 5% boost in power. Getting ready to go to a 160 amp alternator and a second electric supercharger with another 300 amp batcap. That should bring it to about 1.7 psi. Anything more than that would be a big challenge. |

Could you give some more info on this super charger?? It sound great where did you get it? How much did it cost? How hard was it to install?? I have Amsoil from bumper to bumper, and a MagnaFlo muffler. It sound like I could have more fun with my Libby this way untill I can afford armor and rock rails, or even lifting. |

First, you need to get your computer flashed by B&G. Stock, the torque management kicks in and won't let you get full power to the ground. Second, you can not use one of the ebay electric superchargers. They are just bilge pumps and will not work. I am using an e-Racing Motorsports e-Ram and an Xstatic Batcap300. The e-Ram was about $300, and the Batcap was about $150. Installation was pretty easy. I ran some 8 gauge power wire with an 80 amp fuse from the battery to the Batcap. I connected the wiring harness with the relay and 60 amp fuse for the e-Ram to the Batcap. I cut off a portion of the air tube for the K&N FIPK so it would fit with the air filter inside the heat shield. I used the mount we fabbed for the nitrous wot switch to mount the wot switch for the e-Ram, and set it up to only activate at full throttle. In all, it took me about an hour to install. The only problem I ran into was it kept blowing the breather hoses off at first. I put a breather filter on each of them, and sealed the connections from them to the silencer box to solve that. This will not throw you back in the seat. It adds about 5%. Two of them in series should give about 10%, but I have not tested that yet. |

do you have any dyno sheets....of say before and after? |

Didn't bother with $100 per hour dynos since we're only talking about around a 4-6% increase. These don't make anywhere near the difference that 6-8 psi supercharger will. It might be a good way to go for the 4 cylinder Liberty. It should make a bigger difference on the smaller motor. You can feel it, but I've definately made other modifications that made bigger differences. I just did it to see if it was actually possible, and was wondering about building the extra motor and getting B&G to program the computer to handle boost. Then building around a 240 amp system to try for around 2.5 to 3 psi. Decided to Frankenlift it instead. Can't wait for it to come in. I'm going to upgrade the alternator and battery to handle a light bar anyway, so I can add the second e-Ram really easily. That could help slightly once I get the bigger heavier tires under it. To be honest, I rarely floor it the way it is now. With the 29.5" tires, 4.10 gears, 2.53:1 torque multiplication, and the torque management deleted, it really gets off the line. I planned to order a lift as soon as the first kit came out, but quickly realized that the sluggishness wasn't getting any better as it broke in, and no good lift kits came out of a long time. I think I've got it upgraded enough to handle the 255/70R17's I'm going to try to fit under it and still perform pretty well. If not I guess I'll be ordering the new cams. |
