WTF is that! It's a sound like a fan but it doesn't do it all the time and it is something new. It can even be heard with the windows up. It might be my imagination but there may be a loss of power when this happens. HELP!

OMG, you got a lion in the cargo area, jump out!

I've also had a moaning/roaring sound on highway 60mphs, is yours while driving or idling?

When you first take off, then it stops at about 20 to 30mph. Lions and Tigers and Bears...oh my!

Do you have the towing pack? If so, you have the engine driven fan which will engage when its hot out. Normal..

Take it off and give it to me if you dont like it. :)

Is it when your A/C is running? Try checking your A/C compressor while the Jeep is running may be the A/C clutch/pully going bad.

Check your vacuum hoses, especially this one running from the throttle-body area to the brake booster:

I did some work on mine a while back and had a similar problem - loud hissing/roaring sound that I noticed mostly at start-up and when I shut the engine off. Didn't notice any loss of power but it was annoying enough to make me track it down. Turned out I had knocked that one off at the engine end. Put it back on and I was good to go...

Thanks for the tip but, no. It's on tight. I tried the AC on and off & couldn't make it do it. Sometimes it does it in the mornings. In fact it does MOST of the mornings. I'm going to run it into the stealership in the morning and see what they think.

I had a similar issue with my son's chevy s-10 with the 4.3 v6 - It was the intake manifold leaking..

Is it when you step on the skinny pedal? It could be the V6. I love that roar.

Did you not read my post? It says you have the towing pack in your sig, all mechanical fans will roar after the jeep has sat over night and cooled off. It will also happen if you shut the Jeep off when the engine is hot then start it back up, thats called heat soak.

its normal.

The mechanical fan clutch could be going out and locking up randomly... This would cause the fan to "roar" at higher RPM's and really effect performance of the vehicle while you are driving down the road. My vote if for Fan Clutch

As Jeepster mentioned though, if it happens when you're starting the Jeep it is a normal noise. (I hear it every day)

It seems that someone thinks I'm new at driving this thing. It is a 2005 that I got when it was new. I know what the normal sounds are. This is not normal. When people 50 feet away turn and look that says something also.

This morning I took it to the dealer. They said the AC compressor was a little noisy but ok. They couldn't duplicate the noise. I guess when it comes back and doesn't go away I'll take it to the dealer again. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.

Fan Clutch

You say it does it when you first drive the jeep, all engine driven fans will be engaged when they are cold. They will also be engaged after it sits and the engine is hot.

When the jeep is cold, open the hood and give it some gas by hand. Rev it up really good and see what is roaring.

Drove from Aberdeen SD to Denver Co. then down to Colorado Springs....belt came off on side of interstate tensioner shot car in shop over night. Not fun when your 800 miles form home on a limited budget.....now that i had the tensioner replaced its quite as it once was.
