Post subject:  Staying Dry Durring River Crossings

I plan on running the Stampede Trail going into Denali National park later next month, and there will be a bunch of river crossings. Are there any suggestions for keeping the inside of my Jeep dry (i.e. carpet/ seats) if I happen to be in the water a little longer than anticipated?
Thanks in Advance!

If you want to see the trail, Google Maps / Earth: Stampede Road, Healy Alaska

Have you extended all your breathers? I would worry more about those than getting the inside wet.

That is the first thing I thought of also.

And that BCM connector thats under the carpet..I would dig it up and seal it well. Get it wet and you can have all kinds of funky problems. I dont remember which side its on.

I have seen a samurai with a 12V water pump attached too one of the drain plugs. When the water started getting too deep inside he would just flip the switch on and pump it out. It worked alright. Hopefully it doesnt come to that though.

Open your doors and go all around the seals with silicone caulk door and door frame. Entry and Exit will have to be Dukes of hazzard style

Exend ur breathers, Don't Stop in the water, keep a steay pace. If you see bluegills or trout through the windshield, you might be in too deep, so don't open the doors.

I've heard that the weatherstripping joint is at the bottom of the door - and it'll start leaking in there - someone suggested pulling it and remounting it with the joint up -though that seems like it would cause rain drips - so I'd put the joint about center of the door toward the rear.
(I have not done this - I just remember a post about it)

I knew there were going to be some "don't open the door" comments, and thanks for the laugh! ''

Extending my breathers was the first thing I did when I purchased my Jeep, and raceinfan, I would love to see the pic!

In a case like his, if he keeps forward momentum steady, the front of the KJ will create a little bow wave pushing the water away from the front of the Jeep. Now if he suddenly speeds up or slows down that will be broken and water can enter through the intake.

You would be realy surprised how much water a KJ can take
we did a ride a few tears back and crossed some water that had a slight dip that put dirty water on the hood
no issues at all
I may have an after pic

Here ya go
look at the DS hood head light
for the most part it was up to the bottom of the molding on the door but 1 spot was a little deeper
we made it fine but if the dip was on the Passenger side things may have been different

Post subject:  Exhaust???

You all have mentioned the breathers and intake, But shouldn't the exhaust be taken into consideration also????
I'm new to off roading, but recall a few years back when Denver was going through its yearly monsoon season. (About 2 -3 weeks of every afternoon between 3:00 and 5:00 we get a torential down pour with lots a flooding) During these events you will always see on the local evening news some intelectual giant who tried to cross a flooded area only to stall out and require rescue crews to come and save his dumb stupid.
No one had mentioned the exhaust getting flooded so I thought I would bring it up, as I said I'm new but trying to look at this from another veiwpoint. :?: :?: :?:

if your are giving it constant gas through the deep water (which you should be) The air pressure coming out of the exhuast will keep the water out.

Why isn't idle enough to keep the water out?
