We know our Libertys are heavy SOB's right? So, is there any thing that can be taken off the Liberty to lighten the load a little for better gas or more pep? I thinking maybe if you don't do any offroading you can take off factory skid plates, maybe spare tire if you dare, back seats? Any other possibilities here? |

I took the backseat put of my 2000. It does weight a bit and every little bit helps. Aerodynamics would help more highway. Maybe something like AirTabs at the rear of the Liberty. http://www.airtab.com/ I added five on the roofline of my 2006 CRD...seem to keep the back window a bit cleaner and might help at highway speeds...I just can't bring myself to add them to the sides of my CRD which WOULD probably make a bigger difference. |

Let me know how these work, it's a great idea in principle but I'm afraid we could never get the KJ up to enough speed for these to make any real difference. Sort of like the rear air spoiler on the old Super birds did work but putting one on a Duster looked good but served no other purpose. |

Darby - was there a measurable difference with the AirTabs? (I keep looking at those) FYI on weight 'Weight reduction is supposed to improve City MPG where acceleration dominates. The rule of thumb is " A 10% reduction in weight yields a 6% improvement in City MPG." ' http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_447500/tm.htm |

Taking all of the skids off will net around 100lbs or so, which isnt much Since I only offroad around 2-3 times per year, I usually take the rocker rails off and switch over to the stock rims and tires when not offroading. Bigger tires will hurt you more than anything. |

The weight of your right foot makes a huge difference too. Those air tabs are interesting though. Anything that would help streamline the KJ would be a good thing. You could always paint them to match your Liberty. Wheels and tires, for sure are a big weight opportunity, if you go aluminum vs steel, and smaller diameter vs bigger rubber. Depends on how drastic you want to go. |

Take out all the carpet, rear seat, plastic and headliner. Run without the spare tire or side glass windows and you'll get better gas mileage. |

I understand the concept of drag relating to aerodynamics, however the Liberty is more aerodynamic in the rear than it is in the front, therefore these air-tab thingies wold be perfectly useless for us. It's the front of the vehicle that displaces most of the air and we all know that the Liberty is about as aerodynamic as a billboard. |
