| Post subject: | Infinity Sound System on Limited's |
I have a 2002 Limited Edition, with the Infinity System, I assume, and the CD Changer in the rear. The sound is excellent. I bought the Jeep from a friend and am very impressed with the sound system. Can anyone tell me the particulars on this special system?? Is there more power from the head unit versus base units, better speakers, more speakers, etc. Just wanting to know the info on it, as I am curious. Thanks for the help. |

I believe they use the same Head unit but they put amps on the front speakers which powers the front speakers, tweeters, and rear speakers. Its a nice setup but if you ever want to upgrade the speakers it makes for a headache. If you want to upgrade then its best to get a new heat unit, new speakers and tweeters, a new amp, then re-wire it all. You can replace just the rear speakers which is what I did. I got a pioneer head unit which has the option to take all the bass off the speakers and puts it on my sub. This lets you turn it up alot louder without distorting the speakers. |

The difference with the infinity system to a stock system is the infinity system has infinity speakers that are powered by an amp the stock systems speakers are not as good as quality and are powered off of the head unit … The infinity system is a good sounding system the only thing it lacks is low end (subwoofer) …there is really no need to replace the head unit and speakers with aftermarket ones cause the infinity speakers are just as good if not better than aftermarket speakers unless you get into some high end ones witch can cost big$$ I have an 03 liberty with the infinity system and I was quite surprised at the sound quality I just added some low level converters witch allowed me to run a pair of RCA wires to an amp that powered a aftermarket subwoofer witch takes care of the missing low end of the infinity system |

You can add the Mopar subwoofer under the driver's seat to balance out the missing base. It's actually a pretty decent sounding system and I like the steering wheel controls. Upgrading past just adding the sub is typically a call to pull everything and replace them. |

which door is it JT? If its the front ones then you need to try to find a used system or pay up for a new one from mopar, which would be $$. If its a rear then just get a good set of pioneer's from walmart. They are 6.75in. |

I tried to replace rears with kenwood speakers, there is a huge difference. ANy new speaker must match the ohm or voltage of factory ones, so that they are powered evenly, otherwise they get underpowered (stock are already way underpowered) and you lose all the bass that you have there. If rears are blown, I would just cut them off and wait until I replace the whole system, you barely could hear those in the back, anyway.... |

you have 12" subs? So just wire them up through the amps and crossovers, turn off the bass to your front woofers.. that's the only way to get them louder. the tweeters might pop a bit, tough.. |

haha im not sure if im not understanding or if your not....hahaha i have 2 12 in subs running off a 800 watt amp. Stock infinity speakers and 6-disc cd changer. I used a line output converter off the rear speaker wires of the HU and ran the RCA's to the amp. So I can kinda control how much bass my subs recieve but what I am asking is if there is anyway to make the stock speakers louder volume wise? If I change to a new HU would that let the speakers get louder? Or can I amp any other of the speakers and thus make them louder. All I want is more Volume and Treble I think is what the correct term would be for what I am asking. |

You could crank the gain down on the subwoofer amp try to make the levels closer. I would think the bass would be really overpowering with 800 watts and 2 12's considering the factory sub to go with the Infinity system is an 80 watt 6 inch sub. |

If you are planning to replace the stock stereo, just go get a set of components, since you already got the subwoofer. It is factory speaker system, don't expect them to be any louder. Mine started putting out just a bit crispier and more understandable output once I replaced my HU to kenwood. It is better because I can turn down the darn mid-range, which I couldn't on the factory stereo. Otherwise they are not that louder. |

Do all Limiteds have the infinity system? I have a 2003, & I was thinking all it needed was a sub. I'm usually pretty picky, so I was a bit worried that I found a stock sound system to be reasonably good... thought my ears were going bad! |

Yeah guys, how do you tell if the Liberty has the Infinity system. As I mentioned before, mine is a 2002 Limited with the 6-disc changer, and the sound is great. Do all Limiteds have the Infinity? How do you tell? |

I know that you can look at your front door speakers to see if they have the amps on them. I think it's the only one that comes with the steering wheel controls, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. |

Steering wheel audio controls are a dead give away for the Infinity system... Edit: KY Liberty got to the post before I did... Should have read to the end of the thread first. |

Okay so if you have steering wheel controls, you have it... but did it come without steering wheel controls? |
