Post subject:  Trans Temp - light

Anyone had problems with this light coming up on your dash. I'm getting a very rough & high idle + this light has now come on the last 2 times I've been off road.

The most recent was today, 2 min off the black top & a super easy incline. I only put it into high range as it's been raining & I didn't want to slip going up the trail.

I'm starting to think I have a blocked pipe or a sensor problem or I have no idea. I plan to take it to Jeep on Monday, the only problem there is they checked it out on Wed just gone & couldn't find a problem (I forgot to mention the Trans Temp light  ). They did a fuel injection service & diff & transfer case service. They did ask for it back as they needed more time so I can't complain, they are fairly good blokes.

Hi Fouros, was it a Jeep version from another model or a generic unit.

Fouros, it just occured to me that this problem has only happened since my larger tyres have been fitted. Could it be that the engine is having to work harder due to the larger tyre & weight of the new rims. Thus causing the over heating problem :?:

genuine mopar unit

and it could be the rolling inertia of the tyres and rims heating up the trannie

Many of our Rockies guys have the problem on the way up to the trails, but once they go into 4 low and the tranny cools, it shuts down.

For our guys, they have been the elevation. Also it has only happened with the 42 RLE, my 45 RFE has never lit up.

There is nothing wrong
the reason the light comes on is because the tranny is heating up or over heating
the reason the tranny is over heating is because it is sliping to much
the reason it is sliping to much is that you are trying to clib a hill in a gear that is to high OR it is doing to much shifting from gear to gear

the fix USE 4lo when ever you go off road and need 4wd to climb a hill
that is ALL we use in south Louisiana ,and it is basicaly flat here
we run the trails in all kinds of different rigs and NEVER have tranny temp issues even when it is 95* out side

The dealer will not find an issue ,if it goes away when you get on flat ground or idle in N the it is working how it should

Thanks for all the advice guy's, I will put it into practice.

I will however still get the dealer to see "if" they can find out why I have a high rough idle & if so fix it. I've got a bad feeling it all comes down to mud, funny that

Ive never had the light come on with my 42rle.

Youve got to have the tranny in the right gear and the tcase in the right gear.

You cant just see a hill that you want to go up and leave the tranny in D. Youve got to limit the tranny to a certain gear depending on your speed so it doesnt shift alot which heats it up.

Use 4-Lo iand low gearing (1 or 2) f you are going to be climbing any kind of incline. If you just learn do that the trans temp light will never come on. I've fourwheeled up at 13,000+ feet and never had the light come on.
