My best complement was when I was leaving a sporting goods store. I was parked next to a Subaru Outback I believe. It was a couple; the guy keeps looking at the Liberty while I’m putting something in the cargo area. He asked me what year it is. I told him it was a 2002 he looked surprised and proceeds to ask “Ever take if off road?” I say off course. He says “very nicely kept, I see you also got a lift on it”. He calls his wife over and tells her you see we could have gotten a Liberty and still had plenty of room for the baby. We chatted a bit more; I will say the guy was really pleased with the Liberty.

Best comment I got was I was on a solo trail ride. We got out to clear some deadfall off the trail. About 200m up the trail we came across a couple guys stopped for lunch going the other way (towards us) who had a toyota hilux surf (Japanese 4Runner) and a YJ on 33's. We chatted it up for a couple minutes and went back to our KJ. On the way by the one guy is like:

"You did that part of the trail in a stock liberty?! Holy Smokes! Thats quite the 4x4!"

I smiled and shouted back

"Its trail rated."

Laughed and went our seperate ways.

Most comments are that it looks fun. And in reality, its awesome to drive. I wish it were more lift friendly.

I get lots of attention when I pull up to the Diesel pump. People usually warn me that I'm putting diesel in it. I just smile and nod.

We don't have a lot of offroaders in flat land, but the diesel pickup guys always ask how much it tows and how it handles off road.

Sometimes I ask random onlookers "where's the shopping mall?" on the trails :P

To me it seems that the aesthetic compliments come easy for the Liberty but ones for the off road capability usually have come after they see what we can do! :D

Yep. Of course, I also get the random, "you ain't too worried about yer paint, are ya?" comments after they see me wheel at our local ORV park. ;) Luckily, the only parts I rub are plastic so I don't need to worry about rust. :D

I was crawling along one of my regular trails this spring and I came to a washout that was quite deep but not too wide. A guy in a Dakota 4x4 was stopped there, preparing to turn around. I asked him to let me through, and he backed out and watched me with a very skeptical look on his face. I just angled a good line and crawled through. The look on his face in the mirror as I drove away on the other side was priceless! He didn't say a word, but he gave me the best compliment...
