I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on a lift including some new coil springs, OME front struts, and OME long-travel shocks. Before I install it, I'm wondering how much of that I can get powder coated. I'm trying to go for a look similar to OzLtd's: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=142778#142778 (but not yellow; that's been done).

I don't have any concerns about the coils or my existing roof rack, but I have some serious misgivings about the struts and shocks. Has anyone else tried this? Are the high temps of powder coating too much for the gaskets, seals, etc.? Will I just have to find a can of RustOleum and match as best as possible?

Thanks for any feedback.

you can get almost anything powder coated or even get plastic chromed now of days but I'm afraid that any gaskets or anything else effected by heat will get melted. You can even get your own powder coat kit and use and old electric oven in the garage and do your own powder coating. At I believe the baking temp is around 400 or 450 degree I could be wrong about the temp but if it can melt it will melt

Does the plastic you mention have a pretty high melting point? It sounds like it is material-specific. I was reading somewhere that wood can even be powder coated now.

Does anyone know the material(s) OME uses for gaskets and seals? ARBSeth?

Why not just paint the shocks with a rattle can and do whatever you want with the rest?

Rattle cans a quick and inexpensive but it also chips real easy. I'm not say powder coat is bullet proof but it does weather a lot better. If you were to try the rattle can method either a epoxy paint or even better yet I beleive there is some rattle can bed liner coatings which next to powder coat would be the next best thing. 8)

Why even powder coat the coils? Just extra expense I think they are fine just the way the are. My opinion. :?:

I think the look Oz has is pretty sweet. I want to go for something more toned down than the bright yellow Oz has, but I really like the idea of a "trim color". I want to get my Black Widow roof basket PC'ed in the same batch so it will match too. I understand it's not for everyone, but that's the direction I want to go.

What do you plan doing under your rig that will chip off on the paint? All these years all my shocks have held up pretty well on their own unless I smacked them on something and than powder coat wouldn't have helped no more than it does on rock sliders.
