| Post subject: | Remove factory tow hooks |
I'm trying to get the front tow hooks off, but I haven't gotten any of the rusted mounting bolts to budge. I've soaked them a few times with WD-40 last night and this morning, but they won't move at all even with my entire 205 lbs trying. Any advise? |

I hear PB Blaster works great. A little expensive though. Check out this link: http://www.jeepfan.com/reviews/pbblaster.htm[/url] |

you could always go with a grinder. but youll have to get new bolts and nuts. it will be off in 2 minutes. easy. |

If WD-40 and PB Blaster don't work, you may as well grind them off. They'll probably break off rather than break loose, anyway. |

As the previous owner of 3 XJ's I can tell you that BP Blaster rocks |

I'm going to keep soaking them and trying to move them without putting too much pressure on them. I'll go out and find some of the BP Blaster. Hopefully they'll break free in a few days. If not, at least they might be easier for a mechanic to break free with better tools and skills than I have. |

If non of them will work, then I would try something like this:

![]() actually that's not a bad idea. take a propane torch to them and see what happens. Be careful though. Isn't WD-40 flammable? Second thought, you'd better not... |

WD-40 isnt much to get bolts off. Many people do not realize that its not even a penetrating oil so it does nothing for that. Walmart has it. Why are you wanting to take them off anyway? |

Picked up the Westin brush guard that lines up with my hood. I'm going to get a set of Super Skinks for the sides. With the lift and tires, that's all I really want to invest in the Jeep right now since the ski season is coming. I'll upgrade from the factory skid plates next summer, and do the RL bumpers if I'm having rubbing issues.. I'm thinking about getting a set of AEV 16X8's with some 255/70R16 MTR's next summer also for off road, and keep some 255/70R17 Destination AT's on it the rest of the time. |

I must be confused You are pulling off your recovory point to install a decorative brush guard? and then going to install HD sliders and skid plates? what happens WHEN you get stuck? |

This is temporary. It won't be ready for any kind of trail use until next summer or fall. I don't plan to ever use this vehicle for difficult trails while it is a daily driver. I'm thinking about building a Brute in the next couple years for that. I need the Super Skinks now for the step so I'll be able to get to the ski rack once it's lifted. I really like the RL front bumper, but it's not available yet. I would want to get the rear bumper also so they match. Then I need to do the paint job. I'll also have to do something about the exhaust that will hang down too low with the rear bumper. There's also the light bar, 160 amp alternator, TrueTrac, and skid plates. Then there's the AEV 16X8" rims and I'm thinking 255/70R16C MTR's for trail use. I plan to keep 255/70R17 Destination AT's on it for daily driving. My extra money goes towards skiing in the winter, and to pay taxes in the spring, so my mad money only goes towards the Jeep and the gun collection in the summer and fall. Next year I'll either have a brush guard for sale cheap, or may have part of it welded into the RL bumper for a completely custom front end. |
