I took a small trip up to cultus lake yesterday. Nice day trip with the girlfriend. Its about an hour drive, 90% highway and i average about 25 mpg on the way there. I was very impressed, the jeep was loaded down with supplies and food. Also a full tank of gas and has bigger tires. I was very impressed with my jeep.

A: What speed were you going?

B: Mostly flat? Or hilly?

I find, that if I hold it to 60, on mostly level ground, it can get anywhere from 24-26.
But..........If I go 70 or more, it drops REAL fast.

a better question might be which way was the wind blowing...With a tailwind or plenty of traffic in front of me breaking up the air, my the instant mpg on my scangauge will bounce around 27-28mpg on the highway. Different day, same route with a headwind and its closer to 20-21mpg.

Was this calculated from number of gallons used divided by actual miles or are you going by the EVIC? Those things are notorious for being off a couple mpg.

With my KJ right now, lifted, rubber and loaded up, I can get 24 on average. If there is a good wind at my back, easily 27 or 28. If driving into the wind, knocks it down to 20 or 21. All driving at 65mph. If you go anything over that, it drops off real fast, I second that!

I was getting around 18-20 before i started modding....I've replaced the exhaust, had the pcm flashed, installed an amsoil cone filter with k&n intake tube, swapped out the steel rims for alloys but kept the crappy (but light) stock goodyears, used nothing but amsoil fluids and even removed the roof rails. I'm still trying to figure out all the basically unmodified KJs with bigger tires and armor are getting the same mileage as i am.

The 3.73s in the 2003 might be pulling down the MPG. I think after that year (maybe after 04) they were 3.55s. also the tranny was different in some 03s than the 04+

...I could be wrong though, hopefully someone can verify. :)

wrong about the 3.55s for sure they have 3.73s at least in the 3.7s Also just ran from Toledo Ohio to Gatlinburg, Tn. 97 degrees outside so air on all the way and 72/75 mph with the cruise and got 20 to 21 thats with two people all food for a few days, clothes etc. Also roof rack so I am pleased plus got a four whhel drive go any where vehicle so who cares about mileage!

I tend to get about 18mpg on mine as well. Although I'm still getting used to the quiet ride, power and acceleration so I end up doing 120-130 KM/h on the highway. I'm used to the old Samurai and a ford festiva. Not known for being a power house.

nlife - Welcome to LOST

120-130 kph - translates to about 72-78mph - the aerodynamics are starting to impact your mileage. You'll probably get your best mileage in the 100-110 kph range - although in Texas that gets you run over so I drive faster.

also most of the folks who measure in KPH are running Diesels - you sig doesn't mention - so gas or CRD?

Most KPH ppl are living in Canada actually. That's all we use.

Also, forgot to mention with my last post, I run a K&N Filter in factory air box, other than that, stock and the mods in my description thingy.

I don't believe anyone who claims more than 23 mpg. I don't care what the conditions. Wait - there are hurricanes cruising up the Caribbean. Catch a good tailwind and video tape it then I'll believe it!
