Specifically the service guys. I had to drop the jeep off for the blower fan recall. apparently there is something faulty with it and could catch fire. I asked service about it and I get a blank look then.."uh yeah something like that." *wow*

I also have a leaking rear diff, this is the 3rd time I have brought it in. First they try to tell me there is no leak but I have an oil soaked piece of card board then they tell me it will be a few days as they have to order a new part. What new part I thought it was just sealant, that last two times it was in and out same day.

I know what you mean about the dealerships its really frustrating. Seems like they really don't care at all.

Times have changed there are not a lot of "real " mechanics around any more it seems. Now they hook your what ever vehicle up to a machine it reads out what they have to do to it and they replace that part. Plus like everything else there is so much stuff to keep up on that they have a hard time staying on top of recalls/updates/ etc but then some dont really care at all either, they are there for Fridays, and a paycheck.

Most of us as real "Jeep" people know what is going wrong and what recalls are out there better than most everyone else

I love the blank looks from the service department when i ask them a question, the only thing better then that is when they run to the window to look at my car when it pulls up.

Is my '07 included in that recall?

I've had nothing but terrible service from several Jeep and Chrysler service departments.

It's so bad in fact that I just had a water pump fail on my Liberty. It's covered under the 7/70 warranty but I decided to do it myself because I don't want those knuckle-heads getting anywhere near my truck with a wrench.

My favorite bad jeep service story...

My mother was driving her grand cherokee when a big old bolt fell out from the dash. The dash started rattling like crazy afterwards. So I took it to the service department. I put the bolt in the cupholder. I explained to the service writer what happened, that the bolt was in the cupholder, and the dash now rattled badly. They kept it for 5 days. When I picked it up, I started to drive away and the dash was still rattling. So I stopped, pulled out the invoice to read the mechanics comments. He wrote....

"Rattle caused by bolt in cupholder".

CLASSIC. Doing nothing and keeping your jeep..
One day, after I dropped the Jeep at night, (they are open late) i dropped around 7pm, to pick up next day by 12 noon.. they said it should be ready
I called about 11:30 they said it is not yet ready and should be soon.. I waited until 2 and called back and yelled at them for keeping the jeep overnight and not doing sh*t on it.. They said they were working.

They called me about 15 minutes later and ASKED ABOUT THE LUG NUT KEY! idiots. I had already written on the paper that it was on the glovebox. it was obvious that they had not done anything at all, since my job was the brake problem and the noise from suspension----
they called me at 3 and said it was ready.. They billed me for 1 hour, I complained and said it took them less than 45 mins.. got nowhere...

Anyway, there are a lot more stories like this, they are simply IDIOTS.

My new stealership story is:

About two weeks ago the AC in the misses 02 KJ went out. I noticed a wetspot on the mounting bracket of the AC condenser. Took it in with the 5 year 50,000 mile 0 deductible bumper to bumper warentee in hand.

Told the service rep that i see a leak in the mount for the ac condenser.

He said, "I will have to look at it. It is probrably a rock off the higway impact, and that IS NOT COVERED by the 5/50,000."

I said it looks like the mount.

Later that day I got a call saying it was going to cost 800.00 plus because the 5/50,000 would not cover impact damage. I rushed over looked at it and sure enough there was impact damage. A new hole right next to the mount where i had seen the leak. I was pisses told the guy to put it in as a bad mount he said he already entered it into the Chrysler computer as impact under my VIN and that if I didn't fix it here then any other chrysler dealership would be prevented from fixing it under the warentee.

I had a few choice words for him, said put it ALL back together and I would take it with me NOW he said that will be $89.95 for the ac inspection FIRST then he would put it back together.

I went to 3 other mechanics, first two said with out asking them anything and without pointing out the problem "Who was the Jerk who rammed a screw driver into your AC condenser." Third one said "That Ain't no Rock that's a tool mark"

I am meeting with the manager of the slealership as soon as I can.

All my dealership trips have been very good except one, then again out of all the trips to the dealership I was the one fixing the problem(I worked there) execpt 3 trips and one of those was bad.The bad one was I just got back from Afganistan and didn't feel like working on my KJ(yes I know bad mistake) so I had a dealership install a new fuel filter, raditor hoses,t-stat,and flush the coolant.Well 2 miles later the fuel line poped off and I wasn't going anywhere, called the dealership and they said no problem call the roadside assistence to have towed back,I said I'm out of my 3year,36,000 warrenty and I'm not paying for the tow, they said I still have to call them and they'll pay for.Got my KJ back to the dealer and I was pretty mad, still in uniform and no shower for 3 days going around saying how bad the work was here, they shoved a $200 gas card in my hand and I promply shut up.

The one really good story is I found out about the first LBJ recall from 4wheeler mag in Iraq, same day I flew into the sates(again no shower for 3 days and still in uniform) I went to the nearest dealer, they said my KJ was involved and the LBJ's they had where spoken for but since I was in the military and just got back from Iraq they where giving me someone else's LBJ's,was out of there in 1 1/2 hours.

Oh and since I worked at a dealership, yes they can be a-holes but they also give the small jobs to the idiots they hire as mechanics and they don't give a crap, also the service reps are idiots by themselfs. Also the older(and gave a darn) mechanics are starting to retire and some of thes new mech's aren't worth nothing, the generation after me just doesn't give a hoot about doing things right and all about making money.I actually cared about what I was doing and did it right, granted mistakes do happen(made a few but corrected them without complant),and if I sent a vehicle out the door not repaired/warrenty denied there was a valid reason, the customer trying to get a freebie for there dumba$$ mistakes, and was given supporting documents to verify my case and lack of work.

My cousin when to SCHOOL to be a “mechanic” but I tell him you pretty much went in to be a code reader. Machines pretty much tell you what to fix. I believe a mechanic is someone able to diagnoses the problem (without a machine) and fix it.

Glad to hear someone else say that, some get upset when I say that. My nephew is going to Motorcycle mechanic school and its pretty much the same way also. I used to work with old guys that could listen to an engine and about tell you which spark plug was mis-firing  There are some good ones out there you just have to find them but then they dont work at dealerships but most likely small shops.

How about this for a bad stealership experience.

Something went wrong on a Saturday night while running a quarter mile at Rockingham which is about 500 miles from where I live. The motor shut down a little more than 3/4 the way down the track. It would restart, but shook while running, and would die if you let it get under about 1000 rpm. Took it to the 5 star dealership there, and asked them to check to see if I just did some valve damage, and it could be fixed fairly easily there, or if I needed to move up the planned rebuild of the motor by 2 months, in which case I would have a truck come pick it up. After laughing at me and my misfortune, they said the block was cracked and the heads were destroyed so it was not rebuildable. I had already had to stay in town an extra day, so it was Monday and they said they could have a brand new long block with a 3 year warranty installed and ready for me to pick up on Thursday. When I called them on Thursday afternoon to see about driving out there to pick it up over the weekend, they said good news and bad news. Good news was the heads were fine, just needed some internals replaced and needed to be machined. Bad news, they had just taken it apart and figured that out. Thursday, the next week, when I called them, they said that the B&G computer must have "partially failed" because the motor was skipping on all cylinders and had no power. I mentioned that it sounded like they built the timing wrong, and it was impossible for the computer to do that, but they wouldn't budge. I overnighted the stock ECU to them for 10 am delivery Friday morning. Friday afternoon, I found out the tech working on my Jeep didn't come in that day. When they finally started working on it the next week, it still ran just as bad, and another tech there told me the first one had built the timing completely wrong. On Friday of the third week, they told me they had test driven it 50 miles, had detailed it, and everything was great. A friend of mine and I headed towards Rockingham around 11:00 pm Friday night after working all day. We drove all night, had a little breakfast, and were at the dealership when they opened. The Libby was outside, and filthy. I popped the hood, and everything was filthy under the hood too. The air filter for the FIPK was bent up, and the intake was installed wrong. I started it up, and it ran so rich that you could see the exhaust from 100 ft away on a warm July morning. I looked under the hood again, and noticed the the nitrous nozzle was still in the intake tube, with no hoses connected to it so it could pull in unfiltered air during their 50 miles of test driving. They brought the Jeep back into the service bay and started fixing some of the problems while I went to talk to the service manager. He informed me that they had put a used short block in it with no warranty at all, and the price was within a few dollars of the brand new longblock because of all the labor they did. After an extremely heated argument with the manager of the dealership, who obviously didn't realize how heavily armed us KY boys usually are, I made them give me a 1 year warranty on the motor, refund the labor, and I took the short block which wasn't cracked and was rebuildable. I ended up using part of the labor money to get my mechanic to fix the transmission housing that they bent when they installed the motor.

All you can say there is DA** That is crazy for sure. Now is that the same motor you still have in there?

That motor's been in it for about 24k miles. So are the heads. The heads have been machined by a speed shop near Rockingham which is good, but they have stock cams, valves, etc... Haven't run any N2O on it. Now that I'm lifting it, I'm going to remove all the Nitrous components. I'm currently looking for someone around here to cut the ends off my down-pipes and weld them to my headers so they will line up and connect to my cats. Once that's done I'm going to put a new set of heads on the current short block, probably built with 206 cams. I'm also going to replace the injectors that are the originals and over 6 years old. That's all I'm doing for this motor. The shortblock they said was cracked is in my garage. I'm trying to decide exactly how to rebuild it. It has a couple scorched cylinders, so it going to be bored. I'm kind of thinking about leaving it with a slightly lower compression ratio and setting it up with a supercharger. It will probably take me a couple years to get it built up though.

ohh wow, so they told you that they fixed the engine that was in it then stuck some old engine in it?

No, they installed a rebuilt short block and rebuilt the heads instead of putting in a brand new longblock like I purchased. They told me the block was cracked and not rebuildable, which is the only reason they were working on it. I was getting ready to do a $5k engine build in a few months, but ended up spendind around that in repairs, hotels, and car rentals.

Aye, well I got the jeep back last night instead of them holding it like they said they were going to have to do. Not sure what they did, the sheet said resealed and lubricant. I just hope it doesn't leak anymore and that they put the right mixture in there.
