Post subject:  Custom Light Setup

First off, this is my first post, I've ben reading a lot on here and have liked what I have seen, You guys seem to be a really good lot. I live in UT and noticed you guys anually go to Moab. I won't be able to go in '08, but I'd like to join y'all in '09. I've had my Liberty for only two weeks now, and unfortunately tires are top priority before snowfall, so I won't be able to do too much with it right now, but next year I should be able to start outfitting it properly.

Anyway, I was poking around the basement today and noticed a small box that was heavier than I expected it to be. I opened it up and found a set of aftermarket 6004 component projector headlights I had bought for my little nissan pickup but never put them on before I sold it. I realized that I could probably fashion up some housings for them and mount them as offroad lights. I don't own any vehicles that they will fit in anymore, so why not put them to good use?

I'm pretty sure I could find some housings for them, but I was wondering what ideas you guys might have?

Hey man Welcome to the L.O.S.T KJ land

I was thinking about putting a set of thoes projector lights across my Renny style roof rack. I was thinking this today while watching a football game. It might work out.

I am sure some one in this forum has done it all ready. Give it time and you will see people posting helpful infomation and links.

Are they a seald beam lamp? 5"? 6"?

KC highlights has replacement housings for their lights. might fit those. get the housing, gasket and locking rings as well as mounting hardware and you should be in biz. Oh and don't foget the wires, stainless steel hoses and the grommets. wires should terminate into the lights just fine.

post pics of them so more people can offer ideas.

OH almost forgot,

Welcom to L.O.S.T.

They are 5x7 composite projector style headlamps used to upgrade from sealed beam lamps, I can't remember what bulb they use, h3 or something like that I think. They've also got a little blue light inside to make them look cool when the headlights are off. I picked them up for about $30 a couple years ago.

I figure if I can't find any housings I can make some myself suing housings off a turck or something and using fiberglass to enclose the metal framework. It might be a long while before that happens, money is really tight right now and I need to get some spacers for the wheels and tires I just picked up. 15" cherokee aluminum wheels with 235/75 r15 Big O M/Ts, the wheels just barely don't fit because of the steering linkages so a 1" spacer will fix that.

Um, ok, thanks for that image...

The only reason I'm not getting true offroad lights is because I already have these kicking around. I will eventually get some real offroading lights, but for now this gives me something to play with.

I might be able to come during the weekend, I'm sure my wife would let me go, she'd probably want to come too. We want to go down there some time, we were going to go this year but I had to have surgery done so that took up all the rest of my vacation time.
