Would a limted slip differential carrier from 98-2003 Durango with 8.25 fit Liberty? How hard are those to install if I got one for really cheap? |

If it has 29spline axles and had a 8.25 axle, it should. Install is fairly involved. Youve got to remove the carrier so you must set everything with the install. |

I can't seem to find out anywhere if it does have 29 splines or not. |

The 8.25 in my '98 Cherokee had 29 splines. The D30's were only 27 splines, so it was a nice upgrade when they switched to the 8.25. |

If you pull the carrier from one axle and install it in another then the ring and pinion must be set up to mach so if you plan to go through that much trouble I would just get a tru track for an LSD and not even waste the time and money on the Track Lock besides a track lock can wear out so if it has any amount of milage on it then it could be worn The one in my TJ was not so good after 40K and the last 12K were some good trail miles at 28K when I got it the Trac lock was good ,jeep was never off road, then I came around and 12K later I have a full locker out back |

You can get new clutch pacs though. Wouldnt that make it good as new? Chris |

It's just not that good of unit, if you go with the gear driven TRU-TRAC, you won't have to worry about clutch packs or modifire ever again. The traction loc is better than nothing, but not much better. If your gonna go to the trouble, might as well do it right the first time. |

Yes you can,but after buying the TracLok,then paying to rebuild it(new clutch packs) you could have bought a TrueTrac. The TT is much stronger,no clutches to wear out,and needs no friction modifier to work.Getting a TT over a trashlok makes more sense since you need to pay for a gear setup anyway.

Mine came from an XJ fit right in. Install is a little involved need to reset back lash and carrier bearing preload. I did it without the specialty tool which made it a pain. If i had to do it again i'd buy the $40 otc tool and it would greatly simplify the install. If you plan on buying a new one, save up the extra $150-$200 and get the tru-track. Only reason i put a trac-lok in mine was because i got it off ebay for $52 brand new. It works great for what i need it for, but a tru-track is a lot better. Clutch kits for the trac-lok are cheap but a pain to do. Tru-track has nothing to wear out and is stronger. |
