does anybody know how or where i can take my jeep to have the sentry key disabled or removed completely. the factory alarm system in my liberty either dosent work or i dont have one. im leaning more toward the i dont have one since the security light on my dash dosent light up and i can roll down the window and unlock the door by hand even though i locked it with the remote. so im going ot just put in an aftermarket system but to my knowledge, from the PT cruiser i had, an aftermarket system wont really work with the sentry key system, especially if the aftermarket system has its own immobilizer. plus i want remote start... not the mopar one either

Roll into your local Car Toys and tell them that you're a personal friend of mine.

it its not working, just keep the sentry key in the car and an aftermarket start should bypass it, then use a reg key to start/drive etc

I had a sentry key that was an ignition override FOB. Had to click the button before you could turn the key. I pulled the fuse for it and put the OEM fuse back in. Other option is to take it back to the dealer. Dont know how much they'd charge though.

later,
mike

Once the PCM circuitry has been activated for the sentry key it cannot be disabled and it must be used with a sentry key vehicle.

Yes, Car Toys can help you out. They will have options for you to get to where you want to be. If you let me know which store is closest to you, I can let the manager know you're coming in.

Don’t mean to hijack but this brings up some questions….
First of all I’ve never tested the Liberty’s alarm.
What does this alarm protect? I’m thinking it immobilizes the ignition and will activate once the doors are open. Is this correct? If not then what activates the alarm?
If I roll down the window, shut the door, activate the alarm and then unlock the door from the inside through the window and open the door will this activate the alarm?

You have a mission to complete. Test this out yourself and report back here.

the sentry key is oneof those smart keys that has a code stored on it so that if someone tries to steal your vehicle with an invalid key or object, it will start but only for one second and if you try it 5 times it will not even crank for one hour, even if you do use a valid key. the alarm system is like any other factory alarm, but ive never had a chrysler product so im not sure how effective they are but some go off if you try to pop the lock, some have shock sensors so tha tif someone hits your car itll go off.

The Sentry system on my Jeep will set off the "panic" horn/lights function if the door is opened (without key) after it has been locked. My wife sets it off all the time and then yells at me. Ha! She keeps asking me why I lock the Jeep with all the windows down. :-)

If you have Sentry and it's not setting off the Panic feature when you open the door without the key, then it's not working properly.

Vehicle Immobilization is different from Sentry, from my understanding. VI is what disables the Jeep if it's started without the proper key. But it's not an "alarm."

As far as the original topic of disabling Sentry, I don't know. What about disassembling the Sentry key and hot-glueing the innards inside of the dash? I have no idea how to disable it (which is probably obvious by this point). Sorry.

So i just put an aftermarket alarm and remote start in my Jeep here is what they have to do if you have the centry key deal....

You have to go to the Dealer and purchase a Blank key dont have them cut it as it will not be nessary. They will just program it so that it works with the system. The then hook up the alarm/remote start and take that key put it in a box that transmits the code up through a wire to teh ignition spot. This sends the signal that there is a key in the ignition and then the jeep starts.

They way mine works is I have to then take a real key (the one I normaly use) and turn the ignition to the on spot and then hit the break. once I do this then the engine says running and I can go.

However if I do not put a key in the ignition and hit the break to shift etc it will kill the jeep and I will have to start it normaly.

Nice thing is that it works in reverse also I can be running the jeep click the remote start button and then take the key out it stays running and locked while I am in the Circle K getting a soda etc.

In tucson with 100 degree temps this is quite handy.

One thing of caution make sure you dont start yoru jeep in your pocket
I park near my office and I have come out to my jeep running and a quarter of a tank gone who knows how long it was sitting their running :).

Later,
Dan

Most remote starts that I know of shut down after 20 mins. I have mine programmed for 10 mins. I use it as a turbo timer when I stop after many hours of driving.

I used to work at a car electronics place installing autostarters and encountered sentry key systems all the time. It simple required a loop of wire from the start system to go around the ignition key area... Not sure how it works... in fact, I had one in my Libby for a while... But i'd be suprised if you can't find an aftermarket system that will accomodate a sentry key system.

Locking with a key won't activate the alarm, use either the fob or the inside door lock button
