I been using Mobil 1 in the engine and diffs since I got mine and it does ok. Out of the blue I decided to change oil the other day with only running 2500 miles since the old oil change and when I drained the old oil it was dark as sin. I think it breaks down a lot quicker than I thought. Has anybody else notice the same thing? I used Pure One oil filter but this time I switched to Mobil 1 filter guess will how it does. |

Mine was dark when it was new. After a few k's it stays nice and clear now. Well, ever how clear that Mobil one SYN is. |

Been using mobil1 since I got mine, too. The first 5 or six changes the oil was coming out pretty dark but the last few, it's been lighter each time and I've been letting it go a little bit more each time with these last few changes, too. |

Wouldn't that just mean that it is doing a good job of cleaning? The only sure way to tell is to do a used oil analysis, which can be around $25. |

True. It also means that it's doing a good job of keeping it clean, doesn't it? I doubt there's even a place around me that does oil analysis. |

Blackstone labs will send you a free kit. |

UOA is only worth it if you can push the oil and filter beyond normal change intervals of 5k miles or so. Make sure you are using an oil filter that is suggested for extended service intervals too. Once you test a couple times you will be able to figure out a good service interval for your oil & filter combo but you should then test periodically to verify that it is still a good interval. UOA can start to get expensive if you can't get out to at least a 10-15K + OCI and might not be worth the effort and cost. If you are looking for that long of an interval you are going to have to consider using a Full synthetic oil and filter that has already been tested to those mileage numbers and beyond. |

I'm not going far beyond that 5k mark. 7500 miles, at most between changes. And yes, I'm using a Mobil1 extended mileage filter along with their syn-blend extended life (whatever it's called) Too expensive for a blend, imo but it seems to be doing what it should so I guess I can't complain. I've even noticed some slight hp increase in the last couple of changes. |

LOL Probably very true but, after 6500 miles on the last batch, it came out the cleanest looking I've ever seen used oil come out of a crankcase. I was getting worried too because I've never gone more than 5000 miles on an oil change before and they've always looked quite a bit worse. |

I have been an Amsoil dealer for almost 30 years and I hear it again and again. I'll change the oil and a short time later either getting new tires, of an alighnment or some other service and the Mech tells me the oil needs to be changed now. I explain that I use synthetic and it's has a high detergent quality. Some times they still want to argue I'll say I'll take in under advisement and I change my own oil. Have an oil analysis done. If you're really that conserned about the color of your oil look into Amsoil by-pass oil system. Check out: http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/bf.aspx This allows you to go even longer plus by relocating your filters you can position them in an easier locatioin for changing which is always kind of trick. |

I have either Amsoil bypass or FS2500 bypass filters mounted on all of my GM 6.5's I have always tapped off the return line from the engine oil cooler for supply to the bypass filter. I return to the oil fill neck. I leave the OEM oil filter as is. Is there a good place to mount a bypass on these CRD's? How about supply and returns? I use the EABP120 I got about 800,000 miles on my 1989 C2500 with 6.2 diesel with amsoil products. Transmission never touched and rear end never touched. Made me a believer, even if it was just that I'm usually kind of anal about maintenance. But I honestly believe it was the Amsoil |
