yup, if you pull a pcm from another kj, even if its the same year, part number, etc. it will not work. From what i understand, it will start for a moment and cut off. Before i sent my pcm to B&G for a flash, i needed to get the vin written to it; both B&G and the dealership told me the same thing. |

If the VIN doesn't match the PCM, it will run for a couple seconds, and shutdown. I know that for a fact, because when I bought my spare PCM, they shipped it without writing the VIN to it. I sent it to B&G, and they programmed it. It wouldn't run because of the VIN not matching and was throwing codes about it. I had to ship it back to the people I bought it from, and they had to send it to a guy in California to get the VIN changed without reprogramming it. Turns out it's just like upgrading the firmware on a piece of computer hardware. Not bad as long as it's the standard flash, and nothing goes wrong. If something goes wrong, you may have a paper weight. That's why so few people can reprogram them at all, and instead use piggyback chips to lie to the current computer. |

You might want to talk to B&G and see how much they would charge to re-flash it for you. |

another possibility. I'm concerned that between the cost and the trouble, i'll get very little for the PCM if i decide to return my KJ to stock to sell it. That all being said, after a couple of months cleaning up, the fastman is up and running again and my throttle body is on its way..... |
