Post subject:  DRL & Shifter Q. on Automatic Trans.

If I want the option of daytime running lights is it as simple as plugging in a fuse or is there actual hardware that US sold Jeeps are missing versus Canadian?

Also I've never found any mods for the shifter, which I can't understand why it is so tall and obtrusive. Is there a kit or a way of shortening the lever or would it open a huge can of worms?

the DRL as i know it is not plug and play, you have to take it to the dealer so they can program the computer to turn on the headlights when the parking brake is released. this is what they told me when i asked could i just stick a fuse in the slot where its missing in the fuse panel...

Indeed the DRL's are controlled by the Computre and not a simple "missing fuse." Your best bet IMO is to call your service tech and ask them if they might possibly be able to activate the progaming in the computer.

On your shifter - you are talking about a manual transmission right? I don't know if there are short throw shifters out there

If you were refering to the automatic than: Chrysler has certain guide lines about placement of the shifter knob realitive to the seated occupant. So the lenght of the stick is never considered - only the placement and any clearance issues that might surround it. Thus in the Liberty (with a low console) we get a super tall gear selector.

He has an auto. Can't say I've heard of anyone shortening the lever. Some problems you might have would involve relocating the O/D switch.
