I can't type all that again + this way you can see what my fellow Australian Jeepers have to say about what's going on. I'd love any feed back on this as I plan to stick it right up them if I don't get any real help on this from Jeep. So yes it's a link to AJOR, we have a small KJ section there & I thought it would be good to see what the OZ lads make of it + my fellow LOST KJ bretheren.

Thanks

I'd have to agree with the last post(Palla's) that your raditor is packed with mud.It doesn't take long for stuff to collect between the raditor,A/C condensor, and if you have the CRD the intercooler.

Take the electric fan/shroud off and the front grill, loosen all the coolers and spry out all the junk.Go from both directions to make sure you get everything.

Hope you get it fixed and running good again.

What tjkj2002 said.

Although if you take it to a car wash, be careful with the high pressure sprays - you can damage the fins on the radiator/Ac condensor/Intercooler - might be better to do a gentle - lawn sprinkler or something like that over a longer time. The mud will have dried by now - probably hard as a rock.

if you do bend some fins you'll need something like this to straighten them

I had to rinse my radiator 3 times already, the fins were just way too close together for the Missouri and North Carolina mud. I did as TJKJ2002 said, and then used a garden hose w/o any spray nozzles, just let the water flow through at its own pace. It took all day, because it had to soften the mud first, but when the water flows through the other side clean, you will be good to go. One thing that I was told when I did this was that you want to run the water on the engine side of the cores, because it will be easier for the mud to come out the way it got in. Harder to get the hose in there, but it does clean it out.

Thanks gent's, I will take all your advice along with the AJOR advice & do this on Saturday. + See what Jeep has to say.

don't forget to check relays and connections in the engine bay for gunked up connections and such and any fuses that may have gone bad.....(note this is a comment from being too lazy to read the posted thread at this time...just using context clues from other responses this seems like a good one too; now off to reading what you have opsted at the other site and to re-respond if needed...LOL)

EDIT:::

Now read through your post. The loss of power scenario you described sounds like an issue i had with my catalytic convertors. The trans temp and engine temp lights would blink on and off a few times and the power would be dead but i could rev the engine, it just would not go anywhere. Maybe have them check some O2 sensors why they are at it, mine were gone even though no codes were given out by the computer. Maybe pull a plug and see if the engine sounds the same with one out and then you might find a plug issue of some kind too...just some possible ideas to get you asking questions at the dealer again...

Thanks for that, what's an 02 sensor?

I've added more to the post, after a small clean it seems a bit better & yes there was lot's of mud behind the radiator in front of the fan. Not as bad now but still blocked all the same, I'm going to have to do a TJKJ say's and remove the electric fan shroud to give it a real good rince.

I'm wondering if after a real good clean & if its driving fine, should I still bother taking it into Jeep.

Is that all mud caked in there on the last pic? If so it sure likes you were getting zero or near zero air flow through the radiator and thus overheating the system.

Bigger question tho....why did the dealer not notice that?

I noticed mine was revving kinda odd this past weekend. I was on some back roads taking pics and it was revving UPPPP, then dowwwnn, then uppp, then dowwwn. I thought it was odd. :?

And yea, that mud can cause all kinds of problems. Thats probably you tranny issue also. Im no sure on the year or model of your liberty, but some libertys had a tranny cooler built into the engine radiator. The main reason I hate those, if the engine over heats the tranny also will.

So I spent another 1.5hr last night hosing the cooler, it's almost back to normal now. Engine temp is just under 1/2 as it should be, no electric fan running all the time, hood isn't burning hot to touch, power under foot, not Trans Temp light (so far), idle seems to be about 95% back to normal.

Were going out for a day trip on Sunday (D) grade, so I hope the temp is about 30 or so. That way I'll see if it's looking good or not.

I was born in PNG (Papua New Guinea), we moved back to OZ when I was 3. Then went back to PNG for year 4/5/6 & 7. Year 7 is the 1st year in High school (not trying to be silly but I think you guy's call it college??). Any way I'm getting off track, Susky Bro is a nick name that me & my brother used for each other.
Highlander Terminator as in the movie The Highlander & your Cali captain The Terminator was the self imposed nick name of a PNG national that went to our school. His name was Michael Muggs, but in PNG nick names were and probably still are a big thing. So he ramped it up a little and took 2 BIG movies to get his name

Anyway it's a joke between my brother & I that Susky Bro should take on the Highlander Terminator (as no one could possibly beat either of those 2 let alone a combined force such as the "The Highlander Terminator"). Got it Wuggs, is kind of taking the piss out of "The Highlander Terminator", kind of bringing him back to reality.

I don't see my brother much these days & it makes me laugh to see it each day, while reminding me of our youth back in PNG. Youv'e got to hold onto somethings real tight so you dont forget them & we had a great childhood in PNG. Neither of us wanted to return to Australia when we were told we would be leaving & it still saddens me to think of it.

Hope that makes sence, it's not derogatory in anyway.

I would already laugh when I saw it before, now its even more funny 8) And not derogatory in any way that I can see.

I have a habit of making up nicknames for people and then just keep adding on to them....my sisters is almost too long for her to remember now  But I will always remember it.

Nope mine just started out of the blue. The light comes on when I reach 180DEG no the gauge And it wont shut off till it cools below 140 DEG Then my tranny doesent shift right until it cools all the way down.

Glad to hear it is functioning better now that the rad can breathe with all of the mud gone...Hopefully you have a different dealer you can visit the next time you have an issue tho...

Shall do, I plan to look for a wrecked CRD & get the larger Tranny Cooler out of it and have it fitted.

Trans temp light is due to my transmission oil being cooked, it's no longer any good & can't hold high temp's. Thus heating up too fast, my service schedule is to change it every 40'000 k's & they told that as I take it off road I should do it every 20'000 k's (not sure what that works out to in the US, kilometres v miles). So my choice is oil change every 20 or get a new larger cooler (that they can now get) and do it every 40'000k's. Since I've had all this drama my Jeep dealer & Jeep will fit part of the bill & bring the cost down from approx $900 fitted inc oil to $480 / $520 inc oil change. I'm going with the new larger cooler, booked in next week 8)
