About a month ago my fog lights stopped working but I didnt think anything about it since they started working again. Tonight on the way back to school they stopped working and never came back on. I was worried that either the BCM was going bad or the stalk was bad.

Got back to school to find that the fuse for the fogs was alittle melted. A new 20amp fuse fixed it but Im going to be taking the 65watt bulbs out and putting the stock 55watt back in. Anyone that has modded the 65watt fogs to fit in the stock housing may want to think twice about them. Mine have been in about two years without any problems till now.

Good info to know but i cant see how 20 more watts of lighting could cause this problem. You sure stock fog bulbs are 55w? I thought they were some weird number like 32w or something. :? Maybe you got something else going on 2 years with no problems and now it's melting fuses? Maybe the stalk is shorting out or something. My sisters pt cruiser stalk was messed up, fogs would come on by themselves and stay on till the battery was dead. Charge the battery and everything was fine, then out of no where fogs would come on again. Replaced the stalk and it's fine now.

It could of just been an isolated event and/or bad fuse. The 65watt bulbs pull around 2amps more than the 55watt bulbs. The 65watt bulbs pull 10amps and the 55 pull 8.

Fairly sure my stock bulbs say 55watt on them.

The fog bulbs are 9145's,most OEM 9145's are 42w or 45w,and they make 55w and 65w aftermarket versions.

I have run 100w 9005's in my fogs for over 5 years with only 1 problem and that was my own fault, while I was waiting for my ARB I was not running my fogs(cut that whole area out of the OEM bumber) for 6 months and didn't cover the plugs very well and one corroded a little and as a result one connector slightly melted from the corrsion build up,replaced the plug and haven't have a problem since.Though I did replace the fuse with a 30amp fuse, the fog light's use a relay system like the headlights and use the same guage of wire so there should not be any problems running a higher wattage bulb.

Troy,

They were a direct swap out for the connectors?

And no issues with the plastic housings for them?

Is the connectors in the smaller one for 07's the same? will those 100watters work in mine OEM refector assemblies?

The 9145's and 9005's use the same connector, though you have to shave a little off one of the three prongs for the bulb itself to fit in the fog lamp housing. No issues yet with anything overheating.I can not say about the '05+ KJ's fog lamps, this mod I believe is only for the '02-'04 KJ's.
