Post subject:  Powetrax No-Slip *New question

How bad is No-Slip on the road? I know there were a lot of posts on this and I know its Love and Hate kind of thing but I can't really grasp how it really is. I know people say that you have to change the way you drive and that the tires chirp. What I want to know is if somebody who didn't know that the no-slip was installed if they can tell that something has changed since the last time they drove it? Can you hear the tires chirp or do you have to listen really hard to be able to hear it? How much change do you have to do to your driving?

For example: If I install it without telling one of my buddies and let him drive it, will he say - "Dude what happened to your Jeep? Something is very different since last time I drove it" or will the change be so minimal that he won't even say anything?
Thanks guys

--I don't think the No-Slip is bad on road at all.
--I haven't changed the way I drive.
--I think I would have noticed a change in the mechanicals (some noise and it feels different).
--I really hear the chirp when making a sharp turn backing on pavement (Ex. Pulling out of driveway or parking space).

As long as you know that the rear tires will lock together under acceleration, you'll have no problems. I try to ease of throttle in turns and not to mash it in adverse conditions (common sense, right?), and I've yet to break the tires loose.

If the person driving it is an aggresive style driver then they are for sure going to notice something.
If the person is a very cautious and laid back driver and eases out of stop lights and takes it easy on turns then they probably wouldn't notice

The benefits outway any quirks in my opinion. I occasionally here a loud clank whenever it 'unloads' at a stop. You will also feel the torque transfer to the axles slightly if it 'loads' quickly. You get used to it.

My wife hated the one in her KJ and now loves driving sice it's removal. Her short commute had several turns and it would often surprise her w/ locking and unlocking bangs and then the tire chirping thing. She especially disliked the slack it creates and the feeling that she couldn't floor it into traffic.

Now to me it was no big deal and I drove around it and expected it to act weird on occasion. Off road it worked great and I loved it.

I think he has got it right. I've let my father drive the Jeep plenty of times and he barely noticed it. My fiance also drives the Jeep everyday and in all weather conditions and she has not any problems. My mother has also driven the Jeep once or twice and she never noticed it either. However, all 3 of the above people are very light drivers.

Its really not as bad as the horror stories people make it out to be. The cool part is its not really all the hard to install. So you can pick it up, try it for a few weeks. If you don't like it you can pull it out rather quickly and put it up on the board and probably get most of your money back for it. Offroad the difference is like going from 2wd to 4wd.

Not if your dad grabs a screw driver and pushes that c-clip back in there before I had a chance to grind it down some. :(

Alright, I read up some more and heard that on some XJs that have 8.25 rear ends (they might be 27 spline though) they had to grind the cross pin. Did any of you guys had to do that?

No grinding, no problems with my C-clip, and still no banging, clunking or any other noises after 17,000 miles with my No-Slip. Will chirp a tire on occasion if I power to hard around a street corner.

Some people gring on the cross pin when they go to deeper gears. Some grind a tooth on the ring gear. No grinding needed because of the No-slip. JIM.
