Post subject:  Rough Country Lift ???

I was looking on my local CL and a guy had an add for all Jeep lifts. I asked him if and what his lift was for the KJ and this was his reply.

"Rough Country Suspension systems offers a 3" kit, which includes a spindle spacer for the front and a lift coil for the rear, and it also includes shocks. I could do this kit for $459.00"

Now if I am not mistaken the Rough Country is the least desirable among you trail tested KJer's. I am not doing tons of off-roading maybe 3-4 times a year. Is this lit that bad? And if so why? Also I don't know if this was the installed price. I am assuming not.

Thanks

you can get the full coil lift, either from rusty's or piece together an old man emu lift that will last longer and perform better than the rough country for the around the same price.

It wasn't a shop it was just an add on Craigslist. I also emailed North shore off road and this is what they emailed me...price quote:

Thank you for taking the time to send us a price quote request. I have the following prices for you on parts for your 07 Liberty.

BDS 2" lift with rear shocks (KITLIB2A-BDS) : 550.00

I am probably going to wait till the Spring.

Check out OME springs etc they are in the same price range and so much better when you get ready to do the lift!

I had the RC lift. The rear is fine although the springs are soft and the shocks blew in a year. As for the front, they strut spacer, goes on the bottom of the strut, will cause the strut to top out when going over even modest bumps. My struts were pretty much blown in 6-8 months. They didn't bounce, but they didn't really offer much compression damping either. I don't offroad much, and then when I do, it is not real hardcore stuff. I would recommend staying away from this lift.

jg45 - Thanks thats exactly what I needed to hear.......Rough Country = No Country

Yes the RC lift is going to cause some problems with upper-ball joint contact on the springs unless you add some extension bump stops. However, I just recommed spending a little more and getting a Rusty's Kit, its a much better kit.

IMO any spacer lift for the front of a KJ is a bad idea
besides like others have said if you shop around you can get an OME/Rancho set up for around $500

If that is the canadian price then again us canadians are getting RIPPED OFF!! Now that our dollar is around $1.08 I would recommend getting a lift south of the border unless you can get someone in BC or AB to match the US prices! Honesly I paid $1000.00 for my ome lift when our dollar was around $0.90 and i could have purchased it in the US for $600.00?? WTF! See what ALL-j's or RL will do for you on shipping costs, It may be in your best interest to forget about these canadian retailers that are scamming every penny they can and just pay the duty and shipping fees from down south. Also you will be able to get more "bang for your buck"(better lift for less in the US) My 2 cents!

* Forget the spacer lift and save you cash, Coil lift all the way! Do it right the first time! ( OME,Frankenlift, rusty's are a few great choices).

I went for the 3" Rough Country and it blew my front struts out in 6 months and the rear was sagging after 3-4 months. I switched to the premium Frankenlift II and the ride and handling are better than new plus the fact I can follow my buddies TJ anywhere he wants to go with no problem. IMO go for the Frankenlift or at least a coil lift and not spacers. It may cost a little more up front but believe me it will be worth it in the end because the spacer lift will only blow your struts out then you will have the cost of replacing everything. Also the OME heavy duty front struts and rear springs still have my jeep sitting about 1.25-1.50" above where it sat with the RC lift after 3 months of off road abuse

RenegadeKJ - You are right. I have decided to wait on the lift until I can afford a Franky or OME. Then when I am ready I am going to buy from the U.S. My bro lives in Seattle so I could also have it sent to his house.

Great Idea!!! :D ... I originally wasted my $$$ on a spacer lift(OTT), glad to see you won't make the same mistake!
