I'm at 33K and I think I am due to change the spark plugs. I havent had any problems or anything but I bought the Liberty used and I'm not sure if they have been done or not so I thought I would be safe.

Anyone have any suggestions on what type of plugs and wires to use or should I stick with the OEM?

Also, I think I read an posting here but I cant seem to find it but it sounded kind of involved because of the type of plug or something. Is this something I can attempt on my own?

Thanks

Change the plugs....use the OME NGK replacement and they work great. I am sure you will notice better running and mileage after you change them. No wire to change. The coil packs are on top of each plug. later...Clint

You can do this on your own. It's pretty simple if you have some mechanical skills. You'll need:
1. 3/8" ratchet
2. 3/8" universal joint
3. spark plug socket
4. A lot of 3/8" extensions (the plugs are down in the motor)
5. A 10mm socket
6. Anti-seize lubricant
7. A manual of some kind on a jeep KJ
8. 6 plugs of your choice, I used Autolite

Thank you Clint/Edwin!

I have changed them on all my cars before but I knew something was different on the Jeep. I couldnt remember what and I havent taken a look at it yet.

So the OEM NGK are good? I found some online, whats a good price for them?

Is there a difference between the NGK and Denso plug?

Both come up as OEM for the Liberty but one is for the Limited (Denso) and one is for the Renegade (NGK)

Just curious if one was better than the other or whatever.

We have made well over 50 runs on a dyno with our race car. I have tried all the trick expensive plugs and after all the dyno run we found just a plain jane NGK worked just as well if not better than all the other plugs.

We tried different brands, different tips, and all kinds of stuff but just a bland old NGK kicked butt. How that helps. later...Clint

I just changed mine today (32K) i used autolite platnium plugs. pretty easy to change. tip remove coolant overflow bottle, 2 nuts 1 hose on top, move it out of the way makes the job easier. the passenger side rear plug was kinda hard to reach but you can get it. I'm pretty sure you will notice a difference in performance when done. good luck
P.S. I read that if you disconnect your battery for 20 min. the kj computer will reset and re learn your driving style. i bought a used kj too and thought this was a good time to try.
