34 is Reversed terminal. (ie the posts are backwards)

I believe Liberties have a regular 34 series, but why do you want an Optima, they are kind of poopy anymore.

the R means reverse terminal. you don't want that.

My Optima was great...cranked over 5 different abused vehicles over a span of about 6 years. Finally got rid of it when it started seeping through a hole in the case...still started the car, just didn't want that junk all over my vehicle

Weve got two Jeeps with the optima red top. Mine is two years old and the other is about a month.

Ive never had any troubles out of mine. My jeep has drained it twice and it charges right back up.

Blake, didn't you lose power and go off the road after losing control once? Or was it someone else... :?

I went over this last weekend. The "S" is probably the "side" terminal one. There is also a side/top version. With respect to the "R", reverse is what it means on anyone elses battery but if you check out a Red Top 34 the posts are dead center so there really would be neither a standard or a reverse version, unless you are annal about where a label should be. I love the Red Tops I have. Great battery's but spendy. The prices I saw on a 34 started at about $139.

What!? haha, that wasnt me! its went dead twice due to the BCM turning the inside lights on at night, but thats it.

I did spin out at a red light once, but that was the locker, not the battery.

Oh, good. I always thought you had problem with redtop while driving.

So if battery dies while driving, what happens? I always thought nothing should happen since battery is only needed for reserve or crank power, other than that as long as you are driving, the engine should provide enough power to the vehicle to keep it safely going?

I return 90% of the Yellow tops i sell, I work at a parts store,

about 50% of Red tops.

Old Optimas are good, the newer ones are spotty.

Nothing happens. When the car is running it gets its power from the alternator. And if your alternator dies when you're driving then you are running off your battery. If both magically die at the same time, it's just like you're in neutral with no power brakes :)

Nothing should happen but Ive heard of people having troubles getting the liberty to run with a dead battery. In theory, the alternator should keep everything running but it may not put out the exact voltage that the computers require to operate correctly.

no way are you going to run your car off your battery only for very long. that thing was designed to start your car not provide electricity to run it. That is the alternators job.

Not completely true. ask troy about this

but when my wifes 02 battery went dead all kinds of weird stuff happened. Once I got it satrted, the PCM needs the ballanced power from the battery to function properly. So Yes it is needed constantly.

On older vehicles before we had all this computer crap ( still would rather be replacing points than having a computer but) you could run for quite a while off of just the battery alone, or just run straight off the alternator but anymore take one of those away and you better find a nice place to sit. They may run for a short time but there is just way too much draw to run for anytime

So basically, without battery we cannot roll the jeep down the hill and expect it to dynamo the alternator and start up!?

Didn't say that. It should start and should run, Just not everything will function properly. At least that has been my experience. My old XJ would do anything with just the Alt. But these new computerized cars are different.
