Well, seems like i found myself an odd predicament. I purchased an 03 Nissan Xterra from a Nissan Dealership about a month ago now. Lifes been crazy for the passed month and i just got a chance to sit down and sort out some of the papers i got with the car. While reading over the Window Sticker that lists all STANDARD equiptment with my Vin number at the top of paper it clear as day lists Fog Lights to be Standard. Yet my Vehicle has no fog lights. Standard equiptment according to the dealer that is not there. Do I have any kind of case if i was to bring this up to them and say i'm missing standard equpitment from a vehicle that you sold me? |

That is quite odd. But I'm not sure what you expect us to do! Go to the Nissan dealer and ask them |

Rule #1 in car-buying...never leave the lot with your new vehicle without EVERYTHING in your hand. I wouldn't leave the lot without my 05KJ CRD manual in the olive drab canvas pouch. They tried to tell me that they couldn't find it and that they'd mail it to me, but I refused. They pulled out out of the file from another CRD that was sitting on the lot. I also wouldn't leave without my Jeep Liberty tire cover (which is specifically listed as standard eq on the Limited). He went out onto the lot and pulled it off another KJ and put it on mine. Stuipdly, I didn't check under the hood. All CRDs are supposed to come with Optima Red-Top batteries. Mine did not. I should have looked under there and made them switch it out. Lesson learned. They also told me to fill it up with diesel and bring them the receipt and they'd pay for it. They didn't have diesel tanks at the stealership I bought from, so they couldn't fill it up for me. I did as they said, filler 'er up, brought in the receipt, then got the, "Well, we'll have to give this to our accounting department and blah blah blah." Never saw a penny of that money. And they won't swap our my battery either. Service guys just shrug when I bring it up to them. Good luck trying to get your fogs. Service dept won't care, and sales dept already has your money, which means they don't care. |

So here will be the dealers answer to you. At the time of purchase, you signed all the correct paper work. There was a paper included that stated there was no other items promissed during the transaction. You accepted the terms and items given to you and took ownership of the car once you let the lot. One month later you believe that there were Items missing. We have no way of proving that the items were not present at the time of the sale. If you had come back the day after the sale. We would have been more than glad to help you out, but you waited over a month. I'm very sorry, but you are able to buy those at the parts counter. |

How do you like the Xterra compared to the Liberty? The Xterra is going to be on my shortlist to test drive when I'm ready for my next vehicle. |

I'm no expert and haven't been shopping for cars as long as most folks, but I can remember most of the used cars I've seen on lots having different stickers. Some don't even list what's in it. Others have a typed up list of what options are on it. Was this sticker identical to the ones normally found on new cars? It could vary by state, but I don't think used car window stickers are regulated as much as the ones for new cars. Usually they only tell you the important information, price, vin, make, model, mileage and warranty. Only thing I could think of is using the fact that the car doesn't have fog lights like stated as a talking point to bring the price down. It's probably a mistake made by a staffer who knows nothing about their own vehicles. Of course I could be entirely wrong about everything, in that case just ignore me |

You said "you bought an 03 Nissan 3 months ago from a dealer....etc" So it was a used and not new. Either someone (prior owner or dealer) took them off......or the "window sticker" was wrong. I'm guessing this is not the original window sticker you get on a new vehicle but something someone typed up to put on a used vehicle. I do not think in reality they are obligated to do anything after 3 months. In any event you could go back and be nice and see what happens. I'm guessing you will need to talk to both your salesman and the sales manager. If you are a regular customer there they might do something out of "goodwill". But they really don't have to. I have bought used before and I look in every nook and cranny, inside and out and underneith and ask for service records, drive it, etc, etc, and I even looked in the trunk for the space saver spare on a car once - and it wasn't there.....and I still miss stuff..........and I thought I looked good.... You can't be too careful or in a rush. And it's good to have someone elce along - extra eyes - to see something you missed. Then if I am real serious I bring it to a mechanic to check it. I know I am just anal about buying used. |

I thank you guys for the appreciatation, I did call the dealer yesterday afternoon and pleaded my case. They said well frankly they can't do the fog lights, i personally knew that the XE model of xterra's that i got fog lights werent an option, not even prewired. I did get free oil changes for the life of the vehicle out of the call. For the gent that asked how i like the xterra. Well, i've wanted an Xterra for several years, i wanted one back when i was 16 and looking at my first car, back then the Xterra was quite a bit of money and just not in the budget. Compairing the two vehicles (my 03 KJ freedom edition to my 03 Xterra XE model (base model)) I'm quite pleased. The liberty lacked just a touch in the cargo room on the interior and the Xterra made up for that. I also like the ride of the Xterra a bit more, rides a little more like a truck, i like that. Its a bit more touchy on the handling side as far as cornering then the KJ was which in sence is alright, i tended to have a slightly heavy foot in the KJ. I havent taken the Xterra off-road yet as id like to pay off a bit of the vehicle before i subject it to that. Came stock with an engine skid and a gas skid, not the greatest skids but could come in handy and save a bit of money, about on par with the mopar skids. Power wise, the KJ has a little more "get up and go" right off the line in my opinion but seeing as i dont race little civics...i've got nothing to prove. Gas is too darn expensive to use all that "get up and go" (compairing to the 2002-2004 model xterra, the redesigned engine in the 05+ take care of that problem and then some.) Gas milage is the same, I'm happy with it Dont get me wrong, I love the KJ, great vehicle, can certainly hold its own off-road and was definatly fun to drive. |

Just in case you don't know. When they give free oil change they figure they will sell you "other" things that "need" to be replaced. Free tire rotation works the same way. Watch them closely! Terry |

Terry Terry, I too am always weary of this. I feel like while they have your car up on the lift and are performing your "FREE" services, they have a mind to tweak a little something knowing you'll be back. My wife and I always joke in those cases. We imagine the guy putting a little tear in a CV boot or similar and it always ends with the line, "You'll be back!!" I hope it aint so, but I'm just paranoid about mechanics. Ever hear this radio spoof???? This is HILARIOUS, amazing how gullible someone can be when they don't know a THING about autos: http://www.joe-ks.com/MultiMedia/LowHeadlightFluid.asf $70 bucks to install a missing lighter....priceless. Halogen headlight fluid, left wheels were on the right side, 2 transmissions if she wants to go in reverse!!! LOLOLOL |

What an ignoramus! As far as the dealer goes....give them a call or go in. What's it gonna hurt to try? Don't yell, but speak loud enough for other customers to hear you. |

My #1 favorite thing to do to dealers When you know they are going to send your vehicle out to get work done (i.e. install a hitch) get is as low as you can on gas. I did this to my dealer when they had my KK to install a hitch which I bargined, it came back with half a tank of gas |
