Warrior roof basket ax and shovel mounts WILL fit a Mopar OME roof basket perfectly:

(Fiskers) Ax mount inside the tail gate using the same Warrior Mounts. The gate has a slight curve, so I used some small spacers. I also needed to measure with the gate closed so the privacy cover pull out thingy would clear the Warrior mounts.

Got the Warrior mounts at a local sports and auto store called Joe's Sports and Auto.

They're on line though.

I paid $47.00 a pair and I have seen them on line for a rip off of $80.00 a pair.

Isn't that a neat spot to mount an ax and keep it locked inside. The shovel has a vinyl handle and I filled the end with clear silicone so the wood wouldn't get wet. It some butthead steals it, it was only $8.99.

Lemmie know if anyone needs more ax mounting pics.

I did try to find some like that. They were about 1/2 the price. They had some (similiar) at the same store mounted on a display rack. They were discontinued and they would't sell me the display models...?

I opted to not search any longer so I went with the metal ones: Yakima Warrior P/N # 07078

Looks great, smart sollution for the ax as you do not want one flying around in case of an accident.
I have a fold up military shovel and a small chainsaw in a small crate in the back, guess i got tyred from chopping by hand.

looks great Landy. Been planning on putting my axe there for over a year, just never got around to installing it. Maybe I'll do that today. Did you use anything as a backer behind the plastic, to hold it more? Later,
mike

Hi Mike.

Actually, there is a bit of a curve in the plastic trim inside tailgate. I went to the local hardware store and walked the aisles looking for some sort of spacers and there they were in the sink repair section. Beige rubber grommet looking tapered rubber sink rubber thingys. I'd tell you what they're called if I knew! Anyway, I put a small stainless washer on each side of the rubber sink thingys to help control their expansion and they took up the space between the ax handle and the curvature of the tailgate like they were made for the job.

If you have a privacy screen, measure real close so there is no interference between the two.

I taped the ax on there and played with it until I was comfortable with the positioning.

After marking the mount holes, I used #12 stainless pan head sheet metal screws and I drilled only a very small hole, about a 1/16th drill bit. It's plastic so let the screws do the work and leave enough meat so they'll tighten and not strip out.

Remember:
Measure 10 times and drill once!

good advice on taping it up there, maybe I'll even break out the level. I have some small pieces of sheet metal I'll probably use for backing on the "backside" of the plastic. Plan on using the quickfists. Also plan on putting a miner's shovel on there once I get one.

OT Saw on a different forum that somebody made a dinner plate/ cup holder on the door too. thought it was interesting way for storage.

I saw that somewhere too. It was like a coleman camp stove that flipped down onto a little shelf or something.

My only problem is with where you have the axe mounted. How can you reach it from the driver's seat? LOL
