| Post subject: | Power Steering Pump |
Hey guys, i've got an 04' Sport. When ever it's below 40 degrees or colder and the engine has cooled down, my power steering pump screams like a banshee when i turn or even touch the steering wheel. once it warms up it goes away. Pretty annoying when i'm leaving at 3:00am to go Salmon fishing! hehheh Anyone had any similar problems or have any suggestions? All are appriciated. Thanks! |

Mine does it too (98,000 miles..did it last winter from about 77,000 till 85,000). I've never changed the fluid, and probably won't. PS pumps are cheap |

Yea, PS pumps are fairly cheap.... And easy to change.. It's definatley the pump, it has 59,000 miles on it, not sure if the fluid has ever been changed. I called DC and they recomended using ATF in the pump instead of PS fluid. Have any idea on what the price is on them in case i need to replace it? |

I should replace the fluid, you know if there is a drain plug on the bottom of the power steering box? or do I have to pull one of the lines to drain it? I should know this! hehheh |

This is a pretty common problem, a lot of us have had to change them out. Fixes the noise though. I disconnected the lines to try and get the old ps fluid out. Then a week later my new pump with bad bearings blew so all the fluid definatley went out. Luckily the pump was warranty. Definatley use the atf+4 when you change it though, suppose to have better temperature tollerances, sp. I used the synthetic valvoline atf+4 but I am sure aimsol makes something if you want that. Anybody ever mount a PS powered hydralic winch on their KJ? Got a buddy who says anything electric will fail, and all he uses is Hydralics, designs hydralic systems for a living, go figure. But recommended the a MileMarker Hydralic over a warn electric. Any thoughts? Sorry bout the hyjack. |

Thanks for all the help guys, i've got 200 miles till the factory warranty is up, I think i'll go tomarrow! heheheheh Hope they just take care of it, and not give me any issues. The Factory warranty is transfered to anyone who owns the truck untill it hits 60K right? |
