Post subject:  HOW DO I change the axle fluid???

Looking at the manual, when I realized that I've done all the service except for the "front and rear axle fluid change." Any idea how to do this?

OK, I may be a dumb@$$ for asking, but is changing the differential fluid the same thing as the axle fluid???

they're are no dumb questions...just not smart questions that shouldn't be asked.

but yes that would be the diff fluid, there is a write up in the tech section on how to change them if you haven't seen it yet.

The front diff has a drain plug and a fill plug. The fill plug takes a regular 3/8in ratchet but Im not sure about the drain plug. I believe its a fairly big allen. Make sure you can get the fill plug off before taking the drain plug out.

On the rear, youve got to take the entire cover off. Gotta clean all the old RTV off really good, clean the magnet off, and put a nice bead of RTV on the cover then bolt it back up. I find it best to pop the fill plug out while you have the cover off so you can push the plug out. Let the RTV sit for a few min before putting the cover back on so the can skin alittle.

I usually wait around 30-1hour before filling it back up with fluid. I let it sit over night before driving it.

Oh, ok, no worries, those are easy, and I have done them before. Just kind of panicked when I realized that I never changed the "axle oil."

As a matter of fact, I've gotten this cool resusable gasket that I will do this next time around.

Yea, I used a gasket on mine last time and it seems to be doing great. Saves alot of time and hassle.
