funny you say that.. because i was looking for dif. colars too! (just incase).. i PM'd meh_kick about it and he replied with this

"there are some guys buying a steel collar by McMaster (part #60665k61) - see the comments herein this CRD post. I am only slightly concerned about the steel collar because of the contact between dissimilar metals may cause some funky corrosion...

The rear diff cover/housing came from RuffStuff Specialties and it replaced the stock cover. Click here. "

this should help you out a lot.. i know it did for me atleast

so, did you buy that steel collar? if so, hows that working out? did you have to machine it?

also, do you have al's arms? your lift looks nice and high, and i think if i was that high my arms would be banging into the springs for sure.

i have not bought either of the collars yet.. but i'm going to over x-mas break. I dont have al's arms just a frankenlift with HD springs. i havnt notice any spring hitting going on.. there is a 1/2 in rubber block attached to the top of the spring/strut on the frankenlift so i'm not to concerned about the a-arms contacting that. It looks real high because of the cut front bumper, you can see much more of the front of the tires.. and that combined with the higher hood and straight grille i think it creates an optical illusion.

well, i bought the steel one from mcmaster. I'll paint it, so any problems with dissimilar metals should be taken care of. I guess I'll just see if it fits or not! :D

You dont want to paint it. You want it to have a really good tight contact with the collar.

It may not even fit if you paint it.

Do you have to machine the collar or does the 3.5in fit the diff perfect?

see the link above up in 2006kj's post. the guy in that post said he had to machine it a bit.

I thought when they first came about they were just using a dremel to take some off the inside, how much is enough ?

I had it machined out 1/16th then used a die grinder to open up the mouth (the area where they clamp together). Clamp only fit one way on my differential, with the split vertical. Actually good it worked out that way as the screws are easily accessable.

I paid $80 bucks for machining because the shop wouldn't charge less than 1 hour. I would bet that if you took a couple of collars to a machine shop, you could get all of them done for $80 or find a shop that will charge you actual time.

Only took me about 20 minutes of grinding with the die grinder to open it up enough to install it, but your housing may be slightly different

Took me forever to find that link! Gotta be all sneaky and hide it in the text!

Thanks for this thread BTW. I added a collar to my Christmas list! I didnt realize they were only $40.

I believe the inside dia. is 3 9/16" on the aluminum ones, no grinding needed.

just put the part number in the search box over on the left on mcmaster.com
60665k61

oh, if you look at the catalog page, then you can see that you can actually order it in aluminum for a little bit more. I did not realize that.

i cant actually give you a link to the page because of how their website works. it always just says mcmaster.com in your browser, while you browse through the catalog pages. Kind of like when you are viewing a pdf in your browser. i can tell you that its catalog page 1106, however.

you can also find it if you search for "clamp-on collars"

Post subject:  What about these???

They have a 3-9/16" Bore, 7/8" Width, use 3/8"-24 bolts, but have an OD that is 5" (the McMaster is 4-3/ 4" OD)
