I'd leave the lower wattage ones, the headlight lens might be fine, But I've seen the Connectors Melt due to the higher Amperage. |

if you do that get some new off the shelf connectors and make up a new headlight wiring harness with a relay that is triggered by the current wiring. The connectors probably would be fine, but its far more likely that you will either overheat the headlight harness itself, or blow a fuse, than you would melt the connectors. Even if, and there is about a 50/50% chance you wont, melt the harness/connector/fuse, you wont get the best light output without the headlight harness. If you want greater light output, make headlight harness with a relay that is triggered by the factory wiring for the high/low beams. |

I used to do such a swap all the time with my bikes. There was usually a negligable heat build up and nothing ever melted even on dual headlight bulb models where there were 2 bulbs in the same housing. In that case you would really be upping the potential heat output but it stated fine. |

They ain't cheap at almost $90.00 but IMO they are worth every penny and give great light without rewireing or other excercises. |

I just installed the Hella HB5 Xenon Blue bulbs. They are outstanding and I have yet to use the high-beams. I do most of my driving at night, back and forth to work, 3rd shifter (10p - 8a) here. They bulbs are priced very sensibly @ approx $50/pr. STEVE |

http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-9000.html Very bright and white lighting for sure. I had those and loved them. They only lasted 11months couldn't justify buying new ones so i just put the stock ones back in. The do last a lot longer than the pos silverstars that don't last 2 months. |

Hmm, interesting. My silverstars were still working when I took them out, after almost 4 years. I do like the PIAA bulbs more though. Definitely get more light on the road with these. |

Hmm that is intersting. Personally ive never had silverstars. My dad just put in a set and burnt out in 2 months. My brother uses them, says some last a 2months others last 6months. He keeps on buying them for some reason. |

My 2003 has poor lighting too, up here it's pretty dark at night and maintenance to the road network is something done only when whole cars disappear in the potholes. I just ordered Philips X-Treme Power H4 for my KJ Cherokee, they are the latest thing and bring 80% more light on the road, they are also nominated as ‘best buy’ by several car magazines and are safe to use with plastic lenses and original wiring. They are around $50,00 over here and came with free blue 5w5 pilot lights I will install them this weekend. Update: Big difference, the lights of my Kj are great now, on roads where I needed high beam I can use low beam now and still see everything and when I use high beam it lights up a huge area, the light is also white instead of the yellow glow that I had before. I was thinking of adding driving lights but no need for that now. |
