Post subject:  Suggestions for receiver mounted board/bike rack?

I’m in the market for a snowboard rack and bike rack. The Board rack should be able to hold 4 boards. The bike rack needs to be able to hold an irregularly shaped frame (Specialized Rock Hopper FSR.) I’d like to be able to hold 4 bikes on it however, right now I only need two. (I’m thinking more long term when I may also need to hold a kids bike or two - no kids yet though so that’s down the road.)

My first thought was the roof but I hear that I will be giving up some as many as 1 to 3 mpg especially at highway speeds. If I have them on the back they’ll get dirty but I can always clean them off.

Personally, I’m worried about putting too much weight on the spare tire so I’m looking for something that will go on a receiver hitch. Ideally, I’d like to get one that can swing out of the way to the right so I can open the rear gate to the left. Next best would be something that can tilt down. Worst would be a fixed mount. Can anyone give me some recommendations? It seems like the options are extremely limited b/c we have the spare tire in the way.

Thanks!

I have used a receiver mounted bike rack, but had to get a hitch extension. Holds 3 bikes. I've been meaning to get a piece of hollow 2 inch stock to replace the stock mount that came with the rack, but the extension works fine, just bounces a little more than I would like.

Sportrack hitch mount bike rack 3 place, I think they make a 4 as well.

Ok, so I would just have to get a hitch extension and then I could use anythign that would fit on a truck without a spare tire? Sounds simple enough.
