i have a wierd noise coming from the driverside tire area, it sounds like a knocking when i hit bumps on the road and the car feels like it moves, i feel it in the stearing wheel and it also has a squeaking noise i have a rustys lift and i dont know if its a sign of worn out shocks and struts or ball joints or a tie rod. Ihave looked under there but i really dont know what to look for.

Ball joints sound likely to be the cause:

Check out the instructions to check them:

You can use the vehicles jack to lift it up to check the ball joints. Just don't get under the vehicle!

In your case I'd assume you would be able to feel the play in the balljoints, you might not even have to check it by looking at it.

Being an 02, have you EVER had the ball joints replaced through the recall?

If not guess what....?

Did you buy it new or used?

If used, check the jeep website: http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/ On the left side enter your VIN and it should tell you info on your KJ and wether or not it has any outstanding recalls on it for the balljoints.

If it has been serviced, get them to warantee them. My wifes 02 has them serviced and replaced 3 times under the extended warantee and recall.

either way you are gonna have to crawl under and check her out. check the rubber boots and see if they are intack. check the upper and lower ball joints. check the tie rod ends and their ball joints. look real close, spend some time under there. if ANYTHING looks like it has any wear on it, photograph it and post and give us more info to help with.

cheak your breaks... i had a strange noise coming from that area at very weird times (Accelerating/tuning/bumps/idle) that would come and go and it turned out i was missing the bottom bolt that holds the caliper in place so it was rattling around when it felt like it

Those and Body lifts on wranglers and cj's.

NEVER saw the use for them. all they do is screw things up more later on down the road, evenyually.

Body lifts are like breast implants. Look good but of not any real benefit.
