| Post subject: | Trans Temp Light |
When leaving work tonight, the road was snow covered and icy, not to mention minus 20 celsius with the wind chill, so bone chilling cold!!! When driving out, I shifted into part time, then up to full time 4X4. It first felt like I hadn't shifted fully into full time, or pulled up a little to high on the lever. Once I got going, I noticed the orange "Trans Temp" light flickering on and off. It would flash on/off within one second, then do it again 10-15 seconds later. I drove about one KM and pulled off into a lane, where I shifted back into 2WD. I shut the Jeep off, and wanted to restart it again, just to see upon turning the key, what the orange light was.......is was flicking on/off too fast while driving to read what it was. When I noticed it was the Trans. Temp light, I left it in 2WD, pulled back onto the road, then shifted back smoothly into Full Time 4X4. The light never came on again. The Jeep never once acted funny. It just seemed as though I may have not shifted fully into the Full Time slot on the lever. Has this ever happened to anyone??? Just wanted to make sure everything was OK, as it didn't happen again after shifting back into 2 wheel, then back to 4X4 again?? I had also started the Jeep while very cold out, took off right away, then shifted into 4X4, so there is no way the tranny was hot or overheating. Any thoughts?? |

I would bet that the sensor for the trans temp may have had some moister in it and it froze up or some thing silly like that if after it warmed up it was fine or after you "reset" it by turning the jeep off and on The shifting of the 4wd has no bearing on the trans if it was in 4wd then you should be fine as far as the trans is concerned |

I agree with Jason... The weather was getting the better of your sensor. Keep your eye on it and let us know, but honestly at -20C the transmission fluid is probably no where near hot enough to really activate that warning light. |

Guys, had the KJ to work yesterday as normal, and no problems with the Trans. Temp light. Weather and temp were about the same, but not quite as cold. Must have been a fluke, like I say, the light never stayed on while driving two days ago, it was flicking on/off every 10 seconds or so, much like a malfunction. The light hasn't flicked on since......hope everything is fine. I will check the fluid level next time is warms up a bit. Thanks for your input!! |
